Glock 19, 23, 17, 22, 30, 21, 26, 36, 27, 20, or 32
The S&W 41 comes to mind, as I think you can still get one for under a grand.
Caladan
Sig 229 or sig 226 NOTHING, YES NOTHING beats the sig for accuracy, reliability and mag capacity. I love my 3 glocks but nothing beats the sigs. And HK's suck compared to Sigs.
under a grand, id go with a sig 226 or 220. but it'd have to be SAO. i hate the DA/SA trigger types.

This statement right here makes you seem very unknowledgeable about handguns and what they are capable of.

You can get accurate with just about any major gun maker.
Sig 229 or sig 226 NOTHING, YES NOTHING beats the sig for accuracy, reliability and mag capacity. I love my 3 glocks but nothing beats the sigs. And HK's suck compared to Sigs.
Well this doesn't have emotional bias written all over it. If you want to carry, I find that sigs are overly large. Comparing the 4" barrel on my G19 to a P229 4" barrel, the P229 is higher and longer.
The G19 also has a higher mag capacity than the P229 in the same caliber.
Reliability, you have to be joking. Glocks are top of the chain reliable. Sigs are at the top too, but you can't say Sigs > Glocks in that category.
In conclusion, ignore sundoc's post

I can not speak for the person you are repling to but the way I see it
Glock has Sig beat in the capacity department because they hold more rounds. Simple math tells you that.
Reliability is a tie. Both are known to go bang when you need them too.
Accuracy goes to Sig due to the Glocks safe but horrible trigger pull.
To answer the original post, I vote for my Sig P-229 w/ night sights as best handgun under $1,000.
To ad:
Best shotgun under $1,000 would be my Benelli M1 Tactical w/ ghost ring sights.
&
Best rifle under $1,000 would be my Bushmaster M4 A3 Patrolman's Carbine.
In case I don't get back on here in the next few days, Merry X-Mas Gang.

90% of the time, it's the shooter that determines the accuracy. Other than that:
Glock 17
SIG P226
Browning Hi-Power
Flavor's of 1911
If you had $3,000 to spend I would say get either a Wilson Combat 1911 or Nighthawk Custom 1911. I believe they both guarentee 1/2 inch groups @ 25 yards?? I could be wrong. :tongueout:

I have a Kimber Custom II w/Meprolight night sights.
I do agree that they are great guns but I think Kimber has raised the prices a few times. They might not be under $1,000 anymore.

Picked this up on sale for a tad under $1000, add a 10 inch barrel in .44mag/50AE and reach out and touch someone. All my 1911s are very accurate, but the big bird is accurate to the next county. :)

When I take my sweet ever loving time, out of the few I own and have shot, my CZ-75 takes the cake. (always in SA C&L mode tho')
If it's moving and pointing, coming up to eye level/flash shot reaction type shooting, my Glock 17 wins.
Go figure... :whistling:
But I will qualify my vague answers by stating I've never "ransom rested" any of them and only wish I could shoot as well as Mr. Stephen A. Camp who seems to make everything look uber accurate.
I have a friend who shoots Bullseye competion with a stock Colt Gold Cup he's tweaked a bit (which may or may not count) and his group sizes are only seen to be believed. He's got a Hi Power that he's pretty good with as well. But he's about 70 now and, you know, "old school".
I would like to see a Colt Woodsman up against a S&W 41 sometime tho...

What is the most accurate semi auto handgun under $1000 in your opinion. Thanks
Nearly everybody else so far is wrong.
Any number of semi-auto high-end 22LR target pistols under $1000 will outshoot the centerfires out to 50m. Heck, even a 1911 with a marvel 22LR conversion will outshoot just about any centerfire made:
1911 w/ Marvel 22. 50 yards:

Glock? Any Glock?
Are you high?
A Glock, in a Ransom rest, is lucky to shoot 3" at 25 yards.
How is that going to beat 1/2" at 50 yards?

Sorry - guys, the answer is a Walther P99 A/S.
I had a $1200 1911, and outshot it consistently with my P99 A/S in 9mm.
I also have a shooting buddy who had a Wilson 1911, and he said the same thing about his P99. He ended up getting rid of the Wilson.
Sig 229 or sig 226 NOTHING, YES NOTHING beats the sig for accuracy, reliability and mag capacity. I love my 3 glocks but nothing beats the sigs. And HK's suck compared to Sigs.
And HK's suck compared to Sigs.Huh? HKs have the best grip of any handgun. SiGs excel with their triggers. Glocks are dead-ass reliable and cheap. No handgun brand "sucks." They all have different attributes for different people's preferences.
Just because I prefer SiGs, does not mean that any other brand sucks. They're just different. Just like beer, women and cars. Hopefully women .... better than guns.

Browning Buckmark Bullseye. For $500 you will have a match grade handgun with long, heavy barrel and light, adjustable trigger.
My STI Trojan was about a grand and its the most accurate I own under that amount.

I LOVE my Sig, but the comment about mag capacity is just flat wrong. My 226 holds 12+1 rounds. My G23 (smaller gun) holds 13+1. A full sized G22 (but still smaller than the 226) holds 15+1
And reliability? I'd call the Glock equal there.
However, my personal experience has been that my Sig is more accurate than my Glocks. YMMV.

I'm sure the Walther is a great gun but many/most people shoot 9mm better than 45ACP.

The point is that Glocks are not particularly accurate, even when shot from a mechanical rest, which offers the "best possible" accuracy.

Is the point of the thread to only shoot accuratly or a good accurate shooter at under $1000? I think OPer is looking to purchase a good quality firearm for under a grand, that will also be accurate enough for defence.....if you can get the bad guy to hold still while you set your rest up and shoot him in the eye at 100 yards, I'm with you choice all the way, however most in this thread seem to think this is about a larger caliber then a 22...
Oh never mind....

I've shot a under a 4 inch group at 25 yards offhand with my Glock 24. Lucky to shoot a 3 inch group with a ransom rest huh, Haven't shot many guns have we?
Here's the original question: "What is the most accurate semi auto handgun under $1000 in your opinion."
Doesn't say "combat handgun", "CCW pistol", "good quality firearm that will also be accurate enough for defense."
He asked a simple question, to which there is a clear answer. And that answer is definitely not anything sold by Glock. Glocks (like XDs and Keltecs) don't really even belong in the discussion of "most accurate".

i own 3 glocks, and agree 100%. IMO the p226 is the most accurate semi-auto for under $1k. Anyone answering glock must have a reading problem, because the OP specifically asked "most accurate."
The funny thing is, I myself am more accurate with my g17 than my p226, but I know that in my case it's the shooter and not the gun.

Build a 1911 guaranteed to be the most accurate.Prolly somethin in 22lr
My first defensive handgun was a S&W 686, then I went to a Beretta 96F, then I went to a Glock 22. I noticed the G22 wasn't as accurate as my 96F. I then bought a G24c and it was about as accurate as the Beretta.
But, it was too big, so I bought a G31 and it was more accurate than the G24c. I sold the G31 to a friend who had to have it and replaced it with a Walther P99. That pistol was very accurate. I had to sell it due to finances and replaced it with a S&W M&P40.
The P99 was superior in accuracy. I then bought a Springfield XD45 on Friday and took it to Gunsite on Saturday where I shot the best group out of 16 shooters with high dollar Kimbers, Wilsons, etc. After 85 rounds of double-taps, controlled fire, etc the group was around 4-5".
My standard is at 7yds, off-hand, the gun better be able to shoot 5-shot groups where all holes are touching and under an inch.
All my pistols were capable of this to one degree or another except for the G22.
I won a bet last summer when while at a construction site during lunch, some coworkers were trying to hit a coke can at 40 paces with rocks. I said that while I couldn't hit it with a rock, I could hit it with my M&P 40.
The hole was dead-centered...
Still, I think it's a tie between my XD45, P99, and G31 for the most accurate defensive pistols I've shot.
