Any recommendations on places to check out. I been into Get Some, Impact, Van Wagonnens, FBMG. Any other places that are pretty good. Rangemasters is next on my list but haven't been there yet.

+1, But not having to deal with Norm is sometimes worth the expense of going elsewhere..

The one thing that Rangemasters has that most of the others dont is an indoor range to test/shoot guns.

Doug's on Redwood has some good prices. I've bought two Glocks from them that matched prices on the Internet.

They have an indoor range also. The last time I was there, about three months, it was in pretty good shape. It's varied at times though.

They also have a small reloading section.

Norm ROCKS!

So does RMU. I hope Ken Collins recovers & returns though.

I bought my last two guns at Payson Sports. It's nice to walk in and have the guy behind the counter remember what gun I bought last and ask me how I like it six months after buying it.

I do like Doug's but have never bought anything from them. About six months ago, I called Doug's to ask if they would match the price I saw on a gun at Van Wagenan's because I didn't want to buy from them. I was put on hold and then told no when the salesman picked up the phone again. That didn't sound like they guaranteed the lowest price to me.

I think Get Some is overpriced and the guy there bugs me.

Is he sick again?

Yeah, last I heard he was at his sister's in Oregon trying to recover.

norm is a decent guy. he seems to give me pretty good deals. and not a lot of hassle. doesn't answer a lot of questions so just go in there knowing what you want.

I've bot a couple of guns from Norm without a problem. However, i've heard from several people that they don't like dealing with him. He usually has the best prices.

Steve Koski
12-24-2007, 14:11
Norm is not a shooter, I don't think. The red head fellow that works there has shot a couple UPDL matches.

RMTactical
12-24-2007, 16:34
As for Norm, I would have to agree, just go in there knowing what you want and don't expect the greatest help, but most of the prices he has on guns is as good as you will see ANYWHERE.

I've bought both of my Glocks there as well as my 870.

Yeah, last I heard he was at his sister's in Oregon trying to recover.

Hope he gets better.

There is also Gunnies at 400 south and State in Orem.

Steve Koski
12-25-2007, 18:21
If you stop into Gunnies, say hi to "Dude", AKA Brian Mortensen for me. He's the 7' 260 lb guy behind the gun counter. One hell of a good shooter.

What guns did you buy? What guns did he recommend instead?

IIRC, Brian shoots a Sig 9mm in competition.

Cokeman

He steered me to a Sig that was $950 when I was looking for a G23. He then tried to talk me out of the Walther and said to get a Ruger MKIII instead. I am very happy with both.

Steve Koski
12-26-2007, 10:17
Cokeman,

How do you like the baby Walther? What kind of ammo will it eat? How many rounds do you have through it? Any significant problems?

Koski

Cokeman, you've made good choices with the Glock 23 and the Wather P22 (I've owned 3 different G23s and currently have a P22) but Brian at Gunnies is right. The Sig is as good or better than anything out there, and the Ruger is the best 22lr pistol, period.

Cokeman
12-26-2007, 18:31
I have shot 710 rounds through the Walther. 100 were MiniMags and the rest were Federal Bulk. It has had 5 jams. One was a MiniMag stovepipe on the first day and the rest were Federals. They were FTEs or FTFs that happened when my 12 year old daughter was shooting. She can't hold it firmly.

When the guy at Gunnies told me that the Sig was the best, my comment to him was "it better be for $950".

My Walther is much more reliable than my friend's Ruger or S&W 22A. It might not be as accurate, but it is lighter and 500 times better looking. What else matters? What do you want to hand to the hot babe that you bring shooting, the Walther or a Ruger? No contest. Chicks dig the Walther. That's all there is to it. :winkie:

Ammo prices are good at Center Street Brass in Provo.

I didn't know Ken was sick.

I will have to split on these... I was not happy with my P22 (sold it after about 600-700 rounds at the price I had paid for it), but I would take ANY Glock over ANY Sig anyday straight up.

Here in Utah, I've bought only at FBMG and Van Wag's. Here's what I paid for everything:

Van Wag's:
2002 - Yugo SKS - $100 (and $100 for a case of 1,000 rounds of Russian 762)
2005 - Glock 20 Gen 2.5 - $419 plus tax.
2005 - Ruger 10/22 Used - $149 (not that great of a deal, but not bad)
2006 - W. German Sig P226 - $319 w/box and one 10-round and one 15-round mag. This was a gift for a sibling.
2006 - Glock Model 22 Gen 2 - $319 w/two mags and box, as well as extended slide release and custom sights (fiber optic up front, something else in the back). Gave this one to my sis for police academy.
2006 - Ruger MKIII 22/45 NEW - $219
2007 - W. German Sig P220 - $349, in original box, with manual and target.

FBMG
2006 - Saiga 12 - $419.

Van Wag's has awesome prices, but go in knowing exactly what you want. Also, ask if you can rummage around some of the boxes o' junk in the back. I've found a few cool odds and ends in there at times. Norm is anti-Class III (never ask him his feelings on SBR and AOW stuff). He's got his biases too, especially when it comes to the Ruger vs. Walther .22 argument. He stocks guns made in Utah (NAA, mainly), which I think is kinda cool.

FBMG has Larry Correia, who is a pretty sharp guy. He held a Saiga-12 for me after I'd had to wait six years to get one. They also make mags for the .308 Saiga. They have a wide variety of EBRs.

Gunnies in Orem is okay, but I've never bought a gun from them. Just holsters. I can go 8 blocks down the road to Van Wag's and usually find what I want cheaper.

Rangemasters is close (I live in Springville), but I hear their prices are high, so I don't make it in too often.

Try some of the pawnshops in S. Provo. Sometimes you'll luck into something where the owner doesn't know what he's holding.

Yeah, like almost dead sick.

I'm truly sorry to hear this. Ken was my main man there. I'm warming up to Doug, but Ken didn't take any warming - he was a nice man and friendly right off the bat.

I was in there just yesterday (12/29), talked to Doug that afternoon, talked to Gary earlier that morning. He (Gary) indicated that Ken would be back in early January. Geeze, I hope he's OK!

Get Some Guns is a joke. Unless you're an aspiring "high speed, low drag" type or mall ninja there's not a lot to look at.

One of the clerks was trying to show me a Dan Wesson revolver and he kept trying to pry it open like a top break... I just let him try for about a minute before I pointed out the latch on the side. LOL.

Ya, Larry Correia is a stud. He was my CCW instructor and did not charge me one cent because I am a student.

I am hoping to go check the new store out soon. They have an entire wall of various AK's.

I still like Galenson's for some things and unusual items. Don't be scared by sticker shock. It is the oldest gun store in utah and is run by great family but you beter be ready to do some barganing for best price. When my wife wanted to find me a Left hand 1187 Premere Trap, dave was the only one in the city who took care of her. Everyone else treated her like a joke. They have also cut some great deals on 22s when I have gone in with my Boy Scouts or Hunter Ed students.

I like Gallensons and Dougs. Never bought from Gallensons, but I did pick up my Glock at Dougs. The cool thing about Dougs is if you are shopping for a gun and rent one of their used firearms to try, you can apply the rental fee towards your gun purchase within 30 days.

That's awesome especially if they have something used that you are looking to buy, or are trying to decide between several guns.

Gallenson's in the SLC always seems to have good gun prices when I've bought from them. Most of those were listed as "sale" prices, though. I did my homework, shopped around, and they either had the best price or would match. Service is great as well.
