I asked for advice on the best way(s) to fill in the lettering on my Glocks, and promised to post the results.
Well, txgunguy asked the same question earlier today, and inspired me to finish the job:
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/1715/paintedglocks1036x900ib7.jpg

I got the best results by painting a heavy coat of white nail polish onto (and into the grooves of) the letters, letting it dry completely, and using a Bounty paper towel dampened -- not sopping wet -- with acetone-free nail polish remover to remove the excess.
After a few tries, I figured out the right amount of remover, and the correct pressure, to avoid taking the polish out of the lettering.

Many thanks to the GTers who took the time to help! :thanks:

Cool! I have no interest in doing it to the slide, as I like it nice and black, but this is the first time I've seen it on the mags... VERY nice!! Then I can see which is which between G19 and G23 easily - even in the dark!

...I can see which is which between G19 and G23 easily - even in the dark!I wonder if there's a glow-in-the-dark nail polish we could use for that, or maybe some night-sight paint?

I have filled my Glocks in white, but I just mixed red and white Lacquer Stik and filled the letters on my wife's Glock in pink, to match her grip tape.

That looks pretty sweet. I might have to do that to one of mine just as a test to see if I really like it.

warm up the crayon with a hair dryer (not required but makes it scrape into letters easier)

if you don't like it you can take it out with a tooth pick, plus at competitions you can try red or other color to intimidate the others
just work in circles over letters like waxing a car and with a credit card scrape the surface excess

just googled it here is a photo tutorial how to color your plastic guns

I did my Glock 17 lettering with a red chinagraph pencil. Just rub it into the spaces and then wipe over them.
Red stands out but not as much as the white.

Was it hard to remove after it dried, did my 27 but I was afraid to let it dry completly before removing the excess. Yours looks better than mine :crying:

It has a lot of wear. She won it 3-4 years ago and has shot it in every match she has shot since. That is the second pink grip tape set.

Wonder how red would look? I've got some GM Victory red touch up paint, which is a lacquer.

I normally do this to my Mil spec builds but I use Automotive touch up Laquer. The ones with the little brush. I remove all the oils and stuff first from the grooves with Xylene and then wipe it in then immediately wipe off the surfaces with xylene. And let the paint remain in the grooves. Dry overnight, oil over and done. The little touch up bottles lets you select any colors and its a tough chemical resistant paint. You can do things like do the "F" for fire in red and the "S" for safety in white. And so on...

Here is an example of an AK sight done with a Ford White touch up paint after the AK was finished with Norrell Molly resin.

Norrell Molly resin.

What is that? Automotive applications?

cphilip

No its a Gun Specific coating.

It's heat hardened... and extremely tough and durable and chemical resistent too.

better explained here at the Norrell site.

Been debating doing that to the 9mm mags for the 9mm conversion barrel in my G23. The other option was to get colored or paint baseplates.

The flashlight gurus often do this by mixing phosphorescent powder with epoxy. You can see some examples here:

And how would one do it easy?? http://dot11net.net/~jiml/CHLPatriot.gif

I did this with a white crayon and a butane torch. Grind the crayon onto the letters and then heat until it flows like a liquid, wipe off the excess. Not permanent, but is holding up to this Texas heat and range trips.
