I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum earlier.

Anyway, I've been looking all over the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, but wasn't able to find any info - maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

I have 2 questions with regards to hunting in Texas:

1. Is a 10mm caliber permitted? If so, is there any sort of minimum force or speed on the bullet required?

2. Can silencers be used when hunting?

Thanks

no. here's the link http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/hunt/regs/02_regs/means_and_methods.htm

actually i can't think of anyplace in the US or canada where you can use silencers for hunting. the only exceptions that i know of are for extermintors.

There are no caliber restrictions in Texas. Rimfire ammo is not allowed for game birds, deer, antelope, or desert bighorn sheep. Eastern turkey and game birds are shotgun only. But whenever you can use a rifle or handgun (which is almost all the time), 10mm is legal.

Silencers can't be used for game animals or game birds.

See for yourself in SEc. 65.11:

You can also call TPWD and ask to talk to someone in the Wildlife or Law Enforcement divisions. 800-792-1112

Game birds, except Spring Eastern Turkey season, can be hunted with any legal firearm, including rimfire. Migratory birds can only be hunted with a shotgun (federal law).

Machine guns and silencers are not legal to hunt with.

No magazine capacity limit on rifles or pistols or revolvers, and no minimum caliber.

You mean there's no 5-round magazine limit on rifles? Always thought there was..... maybe hunting wild pigs with a 30-round mag in my AK.. hmmm :) I don't have a hunting license mostly cause I don't know anybody to hunt with, or have a "hunting rifle".

Go for it, that would probably be fun. There are lots of misconceptions about what is legal to hunt and how in Texas. No one ever believes me when I tell them that it is perfectly legal to hunt Quail with a 22lr, but it is.

Folks from other states think that hunting deer from a vehicle is illegal, but in Texas on private land it is legal and quite accepted, especially in South Texas.

guy i used to work with would load up in a truck with his friends, spotlight and assorted handguns(his was a 23), drive through the fields shooting hogs. sometimes running over them. kinda questionable ethics in my book. but to each his own.
