Hey guys a LONG time ago I read in GLock Annual that He ( Taylor) had bought a G17 about when they came out and had shot the snot out of it.
Last I read it was up to IIFC 150,000 rounds:wow: with only a few malfunctions ( ammo related).

Has there been any up date on this ????

Thanks

Haven't heard anything but it is about time for an update. Have you tried googling up some anything?

i remember that from one of the early 90's Glock Annual...

ive read a few updates in combat handguns since then and he has put, i believe, over a million rounds through it (if i remember correctly) only having replaced magazines and a trigger spring......pretty awesome

Last update I read for it was 185,000 rounds through it. After that, honestly, what else do you need. G17 rules the world.

last I read, last year...330,000 rounds. Had replaced original sights with metal, been buried in the Pacific for a month and then recovered. Loans it out at the range and duirng classes.

1,000,000 X .15 cents for each WWB round = $150,000 WOA, hope I never get to one million rounds

You mean .15 dollars/round (not .15 cents - I'd stock up at that price!) but your estimate of $150,000 for a million rounds looks right to me.

Shoot a thousand rounds weekly and it will take less than twenty years to shoot a million rounds.

"...bought a G17 about when they came out...

FWIW, Chuck has more than one high mileage 17.
The one in question however, was left with friends in Hawaii several times for the salt-water "testing" at the bottom of a certain bay and retrieved at specified intervals for inspection/documentation.
Saw this particular pistol after the first series of tests over 8 yrs ago. Only had two small spots of corrosion on it, one on the slide-stop lever and the other on the slide proper, due, probably, to a flaw in the tenifer process- - barely noticeable at that.
Has a fairly large crack in the side of the mag well at the entrance on one side. {CT's Speed & Tac-Reloads are done with very positive authority!} Has run-of-the-mill Trijicons and otherwise was completely stock, as recall.
He was supposed to do another article on it for last yrs Glk Ann at the request of a certain person. D/n know why it was not completed or perhaps used?

Doubt the copy on the one website is correct as Chuck has had two XD's he had been testing for well over 3 yrs along with {briefly} one or two G37's one Summer. Last Sept. he had, what appeared to be, the pistol in question or another similar, very well used 17.

As a side note have never seen him run anything thru his pistols except Ranger T-Series, 127 gr, +P+ {in this case} no wimp WWB, ever! And..... most professionals, DO write-off the ammunition they use in training/instructing.

a friend of mine has a glock 19 and bought it when they first came out(early 1990's). he put between 30-50,000 rounds thew it.(he's ex military and is a bodyguard/16 years, and attends many shooting schools) he has just changed the springs a few times and it still keeps going and going.

I beleive the 300,000 mark sounds more like it, as I remember. At least the last test report published by Chuck indicated such.

The last round count I've seen for Taylor's Glock was 270K.
The last round count I've seen for Glock's marathon gun was 330K.

There was a rental range somewhere claiming that they had million round Glock but it wasn't easily verifiable as far as I could tell.

AtI faintly remember some European ammo company/distributor that had a G17 with a monster round count. I'll see if I can find anything on it.

It is not Glock that has a G17 with over 1 million rounds through it, it is Hertenburger, that has that G17 they use for testing.

I remember reading updates every couple of years. I remember him wearing out several holsters, numerous mags, and wore the plastic standard front sight down to nothing. I don't recall him replacing springs, but that makes sense after 300,000 rounds!!! That gun will probably end up in the Glock museum some day.

Chuck Taylor is the founder of Thunder Ranch. Not the Chuck Taylor of canvas high top fame.

I thought Clint Smith founded Thunder Ranch when he was in Texas. When did Chuck Taylor come into the picture???

From the Thunder Ranch Website:
" Clint Smith, President and Director of Thunder Ranch®, is a Marine Corps veteran of two infantry and Combined Action Platoon tours in Vietnam. His experience includes seven years as a police officer during which he served as head of the Firearms Training Division as well as being a S.W.A.T. member and precision rifleman.......In 1993, Thunder Ranch®, Inc. opened to show not only innovative training, but numerous range designs and functions of a type not seen before in one facility...... In 2004 TR was successfully moved to Oregon."

Nah, you're thinking of Clint Smith.
Chuck Taylor is the erstwhile-die-hard 1911 advocate, ex-training coordinator for Gray Gunsite in Paulden, AZ when Jeff Cooper was director, who grudgingly acquiesces to Glocks because (as he frequently writes) "he's a professional"

:wow: In Patrick Sweeney's "Book of the Glock" he reports that Glock used to have rental deals for certain ranges in which they were rewarded for keeping count of the ammo consumption going through them. One place in Detroit was quoted as running 300,000-400,000 rounds per year through there INDIVIDUAL rental Glocks without damage, further when he contacted Glock for some kind of confirmation of this, he was told by Glock that there were range guns elsewhere in the US with way more rounds then that running through them!:woohoo:
