View Full Version : Sportsman's Warehouse - Lewisville is closing
I just received an email from SW that says they will be closing on 1/31. This is sad. I really liked that store. I guess the upside is that they may have some good deals on items they don't want to move. Email pasted below:
Hello Everyone,
Sportsman's Warehouse in Lewisville Texas will be closing it's doors on January 31st 2008. I want to thank all of you for your patronage and your friendship.
If you have a lay-a-way you will need to pick it up by January 31st. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you.
My team and I will miss you all.

Thank you,
Scott Johns

I was just there this past Thursday and was wondering why they were marking everthing down. I may have to go back & see if I can pick up some good deals.
Sorry to see it happening though.

Went to the store on Dec 29th...I wasn't planning on buying anything.Went over to the firearms section and all firearms were 10% off...I had two $25 reward certificates and walked out with their last G36 for $482.00...including tax....I think thats a pretty darn good deal...At one point the counter was two deep and more folks coming.I'm going to miss that store. So much better than Cabela's and Bass Pro.Friendly staff and they actually know what they are talking about. No pressure sales at all.

There are two SWs in San Antonio. The one on 410 and SH151 is closing. I didn't know that but was stopping in just to browse.
I bought a ton of stuff - mostly pistol ammo at a discount. Got a lot of Corbon, Hornady and Federal 45 ACP JHPs. A few boxes of 32 HR mag which is usually expensive and hard to find.
Got a $79 Surefire for $55. Got some Underarmour socks.
About the guns - they were pretty picked over and the ones that I would buy were still out of the current budget. I was tempted by a Beretta or two but, I might wait for deeper discounts.
Since this is Glock talk - the salesman said they could't give away the Sigma 9mm even with the discount.

I'm going to go over Friday on my lunch hour to see if they've got any reloading supplies left. Maybe anything else that strickes my fancy too.

All the handguns are gone at the SA store. A fair number of sporting rifles and shotguns left -10% off from store prices.
The knife prices weren't so hot. I think some of them are a touch high to get someone to buy one at a price you could beat easily else where.
Most handgun and rifle ammo is gone except for some more 'unusual' - like SW 500 Corbons or 17 HMR.
I got some speedloaders cheap and one of those AR mag reloaded gadgets for $20 off. They had some SW 547 speed loaders. Well, that's a rare gun anyway which I don't have. I bought some for my J frame 38s and Colt Cobra.
The weird thing is that I went over to the nearby Academy which was doing a business and next to it, there was a large land clearing - saying Sporting Goods company coming in. I know Dicks is coming to the area. I once heard a Gander Mountain rumor.
That part of town isn't the most affluent. Might be a bad demographic choice.
Been in the one in Columbia a couple of times. Walked out every time without buying anything. I can mail order stuff and pay shipping, and get it cheaper than SW, $135 for a 8lb can of powder +tax is a little stiff. Cabelas is the same, I got a $50 gift certificate, and could not find anything to buy. Ended up buying their overpriced elk sausage and cheese. If these stores cannot operate at a discount level, the only people they will attract are the fools.

I agree - I go to look and went for sales. If you know your stuff, you can do better on major items. Always comparison shop.

I waited too long. Store was pretty well cleaned out. Oh well I didn't have the money to spend anyway.
