IPDBrad!

or anyone else who knows . . .

Do any of the GIMPmobiles have video cameras? I know the MCSD did not have them, but I've never asked about IMPD.

See this topic at AR15.com's Indiana Hometown (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=30&t=291619&page=3) for background.

I saw that thread the other day on one of my rare visits to arfcom. Kinda wild. Looks like the OP removed his op.

There are a handful of former IPD guys that have them. I think DUI uses them and some patrol guys. They are not the norm. I would guesstimate that there are 20 or less.

There was some sort of test program where some guys could volunteer to have them put in their cars. They are obviously not standard issue equipment.

I'm gonna have to agree w/ the arf posters calling BS on this one. The *story* has been edited, but scroll down to buckfever's post, as he quoted the whole thing.

Sounds pretty ridiculous.

Ok, read that, throwing my BS flag as well.

Couple issues:

No officer is going to grab a gun from someone then throw it to the ground. Now they may secure it and put it in their car/on the hood/back waistband/pocket. But I guarantee you, they aren't going to throw it onto the ground. (officer safety issues not to mention liability for damaging/losing firearm)

In addition, they aren't going to bust out the zip cuffs unless they are involved in a mass arrest situation/a warrant service/have someone already bloody who would mess up their cuffs. (zip cuffs are a pain to take off, errr cut off) Zip cuffs also don't cause lacerations. They aren't sharp, they may cause a temporary indentation like metal cuffs, but they aren't going to cut.

Yep, sounds like BS.

IPDBrad, are you guys issued flex cuffs for everyday use, I though they were reserved for riots, bloody suspects, and other "special" situations. I could see how someone could be cut while flex cuffs were removed with a knife. I believe the officer is supposed to use a pair of diagonal cutters or lineman pliers to remove flex cuffs to avoid cutting the suspect.

IPDBrad

Some units have been issued them. However, most street officers do not have them. I don't care for the premade flex cuffs, I have a couple but went to an electrial supply store and bought some very heavy duty zips and interlaced them. In my opinion, zips are a temporary restraint until you cann get the subject to jail or into standard cuffs.

Thanks, IPDBrad ...

That means it's unlikely the incident was recorded, which is unfortunate. Even with video, it's tough to know what really happened, but it sure can help.

The follow-up that Avery posted (which was also deleted) filled-in some of the holes and sounded significantly more plausible. Enough so that most of the initial BS-callers reversed their decisions. Unfortunately, it's gone now.

I'm reserving judgement until we know some more actual facts. He gets the benefit of the doubt from me until I see evidence to the contrary.

Yeah, the OP stated that he drove 25 yds and pulled into a housing complex. In fact he led the complainants on a 3 mile chase and then hid from them in the housing complex.
How did the complainants know that he had a gun...?
Hmmm, let's see. They guessed? He told them? He showed them?
#1 is not plausibile.
#3 is not probable or he would be in jail.
#3?

The cops have the 911 calls, the radio calls and so forth.
Avery has 3 divergent posts on 3 sites where he maks contradictory and incriminating statements.

If i were one of the cops involved, i would be praying for a complete IA investigation, followed by a civil suit.

Bottom Line.
Don't drink and drive
Don't carry a gun and drink
Don't go for your gun in front of the cop.

Ray Charles could probably see through all of this....

Don't carry a gun and drive

???

That kind of goes against the grain of all the freedom and CCW talking we've been doing in here...

I'd appreciate it if you would elaborate on that...

Sorry Pat, it should have read don't carry a gun and drink, and has been edited above.
Thank you for pointing out my error!

I strongly support the 2A, and believe that good people should be carrying.

Note to Me: Edit more carefully prior to hitting send...

It will be interesting to read and hear what the recordings of these calls actually say and more information from objective sources as opposed to getting a second hand account of them.

Now I know what you haven't shown up at any of our meetings yet ... you're still stockpiling zip ties so you can deal with the lot of us when you catch us "ridin' dirty."

Would you guys stop picking on THE Pat Rogers. He might not come back if you are going to nag him to death.

Very few GIMPs have car cameras. While I do only a handful of Marion County cases in comparison to Tippecanoe, I have yet to have a Marion County case with a car camera (store camera, yes; cop cam, no).

Yes, just because you can drink and carry in Indiana, unless you invoke the Internet Texas rule, does not mean it is a good idea. Stupidity is rarely in your best interest and doing stupid things in front of people with guns is an assumption of the risk, including death, on your part.

Remember Kirk's rules when it comes to cops and guns: Eddie Haskell up, everyone!

The better advice is don't drink at all. You can't get into trouble for doing something you did while you were drunk or even slightly impaired if you never get that way.

This message brought to you on New Year's Eve at 23:26!

Wait, you are not including beer, right, rhino? I mean beer is just liquid bread.

Tastes more like liquid cardboard. Get yourself some good bourbon whisky like Maker's Mark, that's where it's at.

If I have to have drink hard liquor (in situations where standing around with a beer in my hand looks uncoth), I've always been a vodka man.

You need actual beer, not the buffalo urine that passes for "beer" in the U.S. It always amazes me that Budweiser is the top-selling beer in America.

I'll second the call for Maker's Mark, btw. Move for summary vote.

I just watched "the Kingdom" on DVD again. Apparently there exists a rare, but highly sought beverage by the brand name of "Pabst" that is so good that it was awarded a Blue Ribbon. Not a second-place red ribbon, but the full-on BLUE RIBBON. It must be the very best beer available, so the choice is obvious.

My dad used to drink that. Of course, my dad was a Marine and there was nothing he wouldn't eat or drink. Except Kraft macaroni and cheese, for some reason. He hated that stuff.
