View Full Version : Mossberg shotgun pics please.
Hi everybody!
I became the proud owner of a Mossberg 500 saturday. Bought it at Dicks Sporting Goods for $321.43 w/tax.
Anyway, enough about me, I would like to see pics of ya'll's mossberg shotguns to get some ideas of accessories I might want to add. And I just want to drool over some shotgun pics.
Thanks in advance to all those who reply.

No pics, but I have a Mossberg 500 with a field barrel which was my first gun ever. I bought it for $212 at the Crawfordsville Wal-Mart when I was just a kid. Used it for several years for deer, pheasant, quail, and clay hunting/shooting.
I also have a Maverick '88 which is the same as a Mossberg 500. It's waiting for a short barrel and pistol grip for the BOB.
Mossberg 500. Bought it at Dicks Sporting Goods for $321.43 w/tax.
Sounds a little high on the price. I bought one a couple years back from Dicks and it was only $189 + tax.
I'd post pics but I've left mine pretty stock....so.
Depends on what it came with and all that. But I bought one a couple months back, the package that had the pistol grip with it, for $249 without sales tax added. And I didn't really shop around a lot either. Of course, to me, the pistol grip is worthless as I don't like them. This particular package the regular stock comes off for the pistol to go on. Not the combination butt stock and grip type. This is a 20 inch smooth bore defense type thing. 5+1 I think IIRC. So it takes normal Mossberg barrels.
Same here, my Mossy 500 is bone stock, there's no "tacticools" attached to it.

It was the best I could find in town. It's stock and has the extended mag tube. The gun store I normally purchase from didn't have any regular mossberg, just the tactical and pistol grip models. They had an 870 express synthetic with the extended tube and wanted $420 +tax. I could have gotan 870 cheaper elsewhere but i really wanted the mossy

My picture probably wouldn't be of much help. I keep my Mossberg as plain jane as they get. It's strictly an SD weapon, nothing else.

Hey blitzer, How do you like the speed feed stock?
I was thinkin' about one of those and a set of ghost ring sights. Maybe a heat sheild.

The only thing this picture is missing for it to be considered "Man Heaven" is a beer and a dog. It already has the gun, remote, Playstation and bed...what more could a guy ask for.

I like your setup there Zombie Steve. Is that the Surefire forend?
Stock tactical model 500. Some of the newer production ones, seem to have a heat shield added to the rest. I don't like the heatshields, makes it hard to clean the outside of the barrel. Can't remember how much I paid, but I think it was over the $250 mark. I keep 5 rounds of 00 Buck on the buttstock, and 4 slugs on the sling. I'm not a big fan of "tactical" add-ons, but I have to say that on a cumbersome shotgun that might be used for home defense, I really like the shortened, collapsible stock in the tight confines of a home, and also the pistol grip, and the slide strap for helping to control the gun.
I agree with all the "Plain Janes" out there. The closer to stock, the less stuff to mess up or interfere with employment of the weapon. I have 2 Mossy 500s. The first is a 20ga with 28 and 26 inch barrels choked respectively full and improved cylinder. With the 26 inch barrel it is great for dove and with the 28 inch works good on jack rabbits. Bought it about 35 years ago at some discount place out in Kalifornia. The second is a 12ga, wooden stock, 8 round 500 Persuader that I paid only a little over $100 for about 25 years ago, also in Kali (but on a second assignment). This is one of the HD battery and all it has is a flash light.
I like the tactical versions but im almost 6'6" tall and my long arms dont go well with the shorter stock...Im still looking for a good alternative.

Mossberg 500
Thanks for all the pics gentlemen.
I'm gonna K.I.S.S. and just get a sidesaddle shell holder and some ghost ring sights and a sling.
Maybe a heat sheild for the coolness factor, that and heat sheilds on shotguns are on the HR 1022 list IIRC and I love havin' stuff that scares idiot politcians. lol
Thanks again, and keep the pics coming cause I love me some shotguns.

The thing I like about shotguns is they are simple and reliable....I try to keep them that way with minimal bolt on crap.
I swapped out the field barrel for an 18" security barrel and then added a sling adapter as well as a MOUT attachment to work with my sling. I use these attachments on all my rifles, very handy.

Is that an actual 590A1 with a bayonet lug, and if so, do you know where I can find one and how much they go for these days?
Fine weapons, by the way.

That is a 590 not the "A1" though it does have the bayonet lug.Around here you can find the 590A1s for about 300-400 used and 450ish for a new one.I ordered mine new its the model with the 20inch barrel and 8+1 capasity I am tempted to add the true A1 to my collection also.I swaped out the synthetic for some wood I found in a "free box" at a gun store and refinished.It grabs alot of attention when people see it,I think of it as my modern trench gun.

I was wondering where you found a 590 with wood furniture. The wood really sets it apart, looks great.

I used to have the Choate front and rear pistol grips on mine. It looked all tacticool but wasn't worth a crap for anything but hip shooting. So i replaced it with this:

I haven't shot it yet so i don't know how it's going to work out (i wanted a folder so it wouldn't take up so much room in the jeep).

Here it is... My $14 light mount. I love it. I looked into one of those surefire forends but didn't love the price tag. I already had a TLR-1 so I just picked up one of these. I had a few good range sessions and it held strong. Nice shottys guys! :thumbsup:

This is my Mossberg 930 SPX the New Mossberg semi auto shotgun in their lineup and getting good reviews. It has been very reliable but doesn't like Fiocchi ammo. It will not cycle the Fiocchi high velocity or the low recoil buckshot. Their shells are out of spec and the 930 chamber seems to be tight. My Turkish auto will cycle them.
It has a Aimpoint copy on it that has been very reliable and mounted with a copy of the ARMS QR Throw mount. It allows me to switch back and forth from the red sight to the ghost rings sights fast and easy and still maintain zero on both. It also has a modified Laserlyte tri-rail mount with a Ledwave Z-5 made in Spain flashlight. The fore-end has be trimmed back and beveled to open up the space around the loading port.

If I was you I would pick up a TLR-1. Great light with many options. Worked great on my glock, great on the shotty and it can be thrown in the pocket for carry as well. Super bright and priced at around $100. I will be buying a second soon.

I bought a Mossberg 500 gamester 12ga. for my wife last year used at Gander Mountain for about 140.00 in immaculate shape, it looks like it had never been fired. No cool conversions, she likes it stock. Oh ya, the police training video "surviving edged weapons" says in the length of time it takes a trained officer to identify, draw,and fire, a knife weilding attacker is deadly at up to 24'.

I went with the 590 with 8 shot magazine and 20 inch barrel;
Mods;
Surefire M70 Tri rail foregrip $150.00
SideArmor Pic rail $50.00
Knoxx Breachersgrip $100.00
Mesa aluminum 6 round carrier $65.00
The rail covers and hand stops are from Ergogrip.

I went with a light of my own creation….
I call it the MacGyver Light, and no….. there are no paper-clips or chewing gum involved… LOL (Please ignore the bayonet... whether you want one or not is purely personal preference, so I won't discuss it.)
http://www.boomspeed.com/guyver/ZZZZ00004.jpg
I purchased these items;
1 MiniMag AA Flashlight
1 TeraLUX MiniSTAR2 Extreme (100 Lumen) dome style LED, to handle the recoil and more than double the light output, while retaining a 6 hour + battery life… Pretty sweet.
2 Tacstar (AAMaglite to 1" polymer adapters)
1 One inch offset picatinny scope mount
1 TeraLUX TCS-1 End cap switch.
1 QD, Lever-Style riser, to allow quick removal/installation of the light.
http://www.boomspeed.com/guyver/ZZZZ00002.jpg
Total: around $75 bucks.
It was an experiment, which is still in progress, but we shall see how the darn thing holds up…. Anyway… I already had the Surefire M70, triple rail fore grip to mount it on..
