Greetings all,
I'm planning to move to LV by May 08 to pursue a career change. I've been doing a bit of research on firearms and ccw law in NV, and what I'll need to do to be compliant. Basically, this is my understanding of what I need to do:
* Within 24 hrs of moving to LV I need to take all handguns that I own to the LVMPD to get registered.
* Pass a state approved ccw class and qualify with each handgun that I intend to carry with the ccw license
* Apply for a ccw license through LVMPD, which will list those handguns that I am allowed to carry with the NV ccw license
* Once issued a NV ccw license, I must carry it and my LVMPD registration card at all times while carrying, and only carry those fireams that are listed on the ccw license
* Adhere to individual municpality laws on where ccw is allowed/disallowed
Hopefully I haven't overlooked anything, and if I have, I would appreciate any feedback from you NV folks, especially those of you in the Las Vegas area. The ccw process is a little different than what I had to go through here in Florida, but it doesn't seem like too much of a hassle.
Any recommendations regarding good ccw class instructors would also be much appreciated. Also, I know there are a number of indoor ranges in LV, but what about private ranges or gun clubs?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Per SB92, you have 72 hrs to register your handguns. Here's some more info:
http://www.lvmpd.com/permits/firearms_concealed.html
http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec253
I went through the Gun Store here for the CCW class (which cost me $60 and then $105 to apply for the license) but there are other places you can go (maybe others can chime in). As for outdoor ranges there is the Boulder City Rifle and Pistol Club, http://www.brpc1.org, Desert Sportsman's Rifle & Pistol Club, http://www.dsrpc.net/index.html.

You have 60 days to declare, establish residence. Then you have 72 hour to register your handguns.
* Pass a state approved ccw class and qualify with each handgun that I intend to carry with the ccw license
If revolvers are included you need only qualify with one of them.
* Apply for a ccw license through LVMPD, which will list those handguns that I am allowed to carry with the NV ccw license
* Once issued a NV ccw license, I must carry it and my LVMPD registration card at all times while carrying, and only carry those fireams that are listed on the ccw license
You are not required by law to carry the LNMPD registration cards (blue cards) but it is recommended.
* Adhere to individual municpality laws on where ccw is allowed/disallowed
These are state laws. See the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS).

I also took the course at The Gun Store. Many scoff at this establishment, however Tony Dee was a fine instructor IMO.

I second that Tony Dee is a great guy, can't say the same for the rest of the staff.

Looks like I was a little off on the requirements in LV, as well as the NV statutes. Much thanks for setting me straight, and the ccw class recommendations. Glad to know I won't have to rush getting my little arsenal registered with LVMPD.
Just a heads up.....
Don't bring all your guns down to a substation at once.
They had a heart attack when I told them I had 52 handguns to register when my dad passed away.
Told me to bring in 3 per day. I told them they were making me break a law... and they didn't comment on that little fact.
So bring a few down, (If you have alot) and let them tell you what they want you to do.

Agreed Tony is good people, only if hed stop shooting that damn Carcano at vimbar matches
Dave Johnson is also another good guy at the Gun Store.
Another place to check out for CCW classes is Spurlocks Gun Shop in Henderson 702-564-5668 Think they hold them most Saturdays.

I have room at my house for some of those. I'll be more than glad to take them off your hands and put them into good use. BTW, Sorry to hear about your dad.

That had crossed my mind...I appreciate the advice. Just the idea of taking a firearm into a police station is foreign to me, let alone multiple guns.
Does LVMPD just take down serial #'s or do they do a whole safety/functionality check of each gun?

When I took mine they just wrote down the serial. Then they gave me the blue card.

Thanks!
Of course I see that FL just got reciprocity with NV, so I'm thinking I should be able to carry until I establish residency.

residency, with regards to the NRS and the DMV is 45 days. I don't think there is a defined time frame of when your FL CCW is no longer valid and you become a NV resident and need a NV CCW. I would try and get the CCW class done as soon as possible and the submit the paperwork to metro as soon as possible. The wait time is running around 70 days.
