View Full Version : Can we get Ballard to remove "no guns" in IndyParks?
Not sure if this has come up already, since I've been away a bit.
But, I would like to think that Mayor Ballard would/should be approached to take the stand that since Governor Daniels' edict on guns in STATE parks has not resulted in any problems, that IndyParks should follow his lead.
Okay...now what? I have no idea how to get the ball rolling. But someone must.

Do you guys have a campaign started? If not, you should.
Especially for us visitors who wish to spend time/money there.:tongueout:
Oh great, get the "No Guns" signs removed then what will we have??
Anarchy I say, mass shootings because everyone will swarm the parks and start blasting away. You can't do that, if you take the signs down, then the criminals will come. Just say no!!!
Okay, I am for removing them.

You forgot "Blood will run in the streets! There will be shootouts over parking spaces!"

You mean blood in the grass, afterall we are talking about parks.
Now I bet Rhino is the first to talk about CCW in your swim trunks at a public pool.

You know, I was just reading the text of the proposed changes in SB65 (http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2008/IN/IN0065.1.html), and the language seems to include all land and buildings owned by political subdivisions in Indiana (with some exceptions). It seems as though this would remove the IndyParks prohibition, or am I reading it incorrectly?
Ok, first of all Ballard can not just remove the "no guns" signs from the parks. This is a City ordinance and will have to be done by the CCC. It would probably be a better approach to contact your CC member (lost cause for me - Vernon Brown) and ask them to change the ordinance.

It will probably be easier to change the city ordinance. I expect SB65 will die a slow painful death in committee.

You . . . guys!
You should all have written your letters to your state reps and senators about SB 65 and 66. SB 65 would nullify the "no guns in parks" in Indianapolis among its many, many positive results if it becomes laws.

*I* did.
I have not heard of those; again I've been away from GT for a bit. I'll look into it.

Already contacted my Sen./Rep. regarding these (as you probably could've guessed). I did send the new mayor a request via the indy.gov website about the parks, too. It seems that the "anti's" try to hit us @ the local, state & federal levels (ala; semi auto bans), why not use their same game & hit THEM @ the local, state & federal levels. I think it is high time for them to start pulling their hair out chasing down HUNDREDS of pro gun bills in every corner of the country.
I emailed my senator(Delph), and his office actually called me back last week, saying he wanted to speak to me about my email!
I, uh, haven't had a chance to return his call....
And, I start the MCSD academy Monday for 10 weeks, so I'll have to do it on my lunch break or something.

I always get form letters back from my senator and rep. "I got your letter, blah blah blah, I'm going to ignore you and vote how I want, blah blah blah."

My state Sen. (Mike Young) & state Rep. (Hinkle) usually call me back when I leave a message. My wife was commenting just the other day that she doesn't remember ever living somewhere that her state Sen & Rep actually had "town meetings", send out questionaires & return your calls!

Hinkle is always good about responding to my survey responses. I usually send a letter along with it explaining my answers as well as anything else I want to ***** about. Young on the other hand does not take criticism very well and always starts blubbering if you contradict any of his views.
