As a new Glock owner I have seen grip plugs advertised that claim to keep the crap out of the gun. Is this true and are they really needed. Thanks.

Thanks. mserr 01-08-2008, 23:50 If you clean your gun often, once a month I suppose, really no use for it. If you have your gun in a dusty closet or drawer and don't clean it for months on end, then it may. The whole arguement is that that hole in the grip leads to all the workings of the gun and if dust gets in there it *could* cause failures. Alot of people do it for cosmetic reasons though, it makes the grip looks a lot more "complete." CIA_007 01-08-2008, 23:55 I have heard from Glock reps that they do not recommend the grip plug as it was designed to allow debris to fall clear. However, I suspect that if you clear your firearm regularly, it probably would not hurt your Glock. ace1627 01-09-2008, 00:38 It does make the gun look more complete and it does keep crap out of the hole. It does not effect the workings of the gun. NEO Clevelander 01-09-2008, 00:39 Why mess with a reliable gun? Debris might fall clear without a plug, but the plug wouldn't stop that, it'd just collect the crud. My Glocks are bone-stock and will stay that way unless/until they prove unreliable, and then I'd fix whatever ails them. Otherwise, it's a relatively stout design that doesn't need a plug that wasn't deemed necessary by Austrian engineers. If it shoots straight and is reliable, leave it alone. jakemccoy 01-09-2008, 00:42 I use the plug and like it. Try it out. If you don't like it, take it out. It doesn't cost much. Guns & Cockpits 01-09-2008, 00:44 The hole is there for a reason. It allows water, debris, etc. to come out of the gun, rather than keeping it up where it's important that stuff like that does not stay. And the other reason for that hole is for malfunctions. Certain malfunctions with Glocks call for the mag to be ripped free. And you're not going to be able to rip that mag free without that space there, I can pretty much guarantee that. Well, without pliers, that is... OKgetdown 01-09-2008, 00:46 I have one in my G17, pretty much cause I think it looks good. I am very easy on my guns and suspect nothing good or bad to happen either way having it. However, if I were in a situation where I was using it in extreme environment such as mud, sand ect. I would probably not want it. It holds crud in your gun as well, when maybe it should drain out there. Just my 0.02 revere 01-09-2008, 01:03 Get it for the simple reason that it makes one less place to snag your mag on during a stressfull reload, guides the mag in that much better. More plausible to me than having a malfuntion so bad you cant get the mag out. Yeah it looks better too. There shouldnt be enough crud falling out the hole on a cared for glock that a grip plug is blocking it and backing it up into the action. When you clean your gun pop it out and clean up in there with q-tips and put it back in. Again Id be more worried about dropping it mud or sand and the crud going right up in there then having to fall out. For $6 bucks, every Glock I have has it and will continue to. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc12/revere10/HPIM0973.jpg tlcmbc 01-09-2008, 15:22 Wow, got alot of feedback really quick. Thanks everyone, think I will get one and try it. That sells it right there. What's the best one to get? Magicmanmb 01-10-2008, 13:40 I personally have the one from Brownells that also acts as a mag chute. Makes it a little easier for me to do a quick change. Slightly more than $6.00 though about 15+shipping BamaBud 01-10-2008, 17:29 There are two different types of plugs that I use. The first is a TacRac armorer's tool. It has a pin punch and an ejector(?) tool and fits in the hole with no problems. Then you always have a tool with you. The second is the plug by Sunset that hols small parts or one additional round of ammo. Again, nice to always have a little extra always with the pistol. My .02 BB Richard_A 01-14-2008, 01:22 here you go http://glockparts.com $6.00 plus $3.00 shipping , fits nice and flush RUT 01-14-2008, 07:37 >>The hole is there for a reason. It allows water, debris, etc<< There ain't no water & debris coming out of my guns! Magicmanmb 01-15-2008, 09:02 It was also meant as a lanyard connection point for military use. Remember Glocks were designed for military use. A lot of the European countries still have pistol lanyards for PD & Military. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
