View Full Version : I've gotta get a 30
I rented a Glock 30 at the local range on Saturday. What a great gun, small enough to carry, accurate enough to shoot, controllable recoil, and no malfunctions in 100 rounds through a gun that was saturated with powder (even the slide was dirty). Then to make things better they had a door prize drawing and I won a bag full of Glock stuff (hat, tshirt, etc). So I went home and told the wife I've gotta get one and she said ok!
I'm gonna spend next weekend at the local gun shops looking for one. The shops in my area tend to have a lot of stuff that sits around for a while. Sometimes a gun will be NIB but be over a year old. Sometimes this is good, I recently found a NIB S&W 686+ without the annoying hammer lock. Sometimes this can be bad, some folks might want the hammer lock. Has Glock made any changes to the 30 lately? If so what are the advantages of an old one vs. a new one? How can I tell if the gun I'm looking at has had the change?
Also, this will be my first Glock, are there any necessary accesories that I should get while I'm at the gun shop? Do I need a special cleaner or lubricant that won't damage the plastic? I usually use Hopps #9 and Hopps oil or Kleen-Bore oil on my guns.

Welcome aboard, Highcap. I don't think the 30 has changed but the other guys would be able to tell you for sure.
Hoppe's is fine to use. I like it but I think there is better stuff out there. But that's just a personal thing.
The only accessory I automatically get on my Glocks is night sights. Some guys like extended slide stops, extended mag releases, SS guide rods, etc. That stuff is fine, too, but I just change the sights.
Remember, you'll need lots of money for ammo :)

I've gotta get a 30
Yes you do!!!
I love my Glock 30!!!;f
YOU'VE GOTTA GET A G30. You will definately be glad you did. Do a search to find what you want in a holster would be my first consideration. You will more than likely get several but my favorite is Comp-Tec (shirt tucker). Have fun looking!!
Got my G30 about 2 weeks ago and can't put it down! I never imagined a gun this size would shoot so sweet.;f Is it wrong to want another one????;a
I like to describe my #30 as the perfect power-to-weight-and-size pistol ever devised by man.
OKAY that may have sounded a little hokey, but you get what I mean.
I really, really enjoy owning and shooting this pistol--and the fact that I didn't have to spend nearly $1K for it.
NOW FER HEAVENS's SAKE MAN -- GO GET IT NOW! :)
Worried about damaging a Glock's plastic????
ROFL!!!!!!!
Ypu may wish to have night sights. Another nice option is one 9-round magazine for extra concealment when needed. I prefer to cerry mine in a Sidearmor holster. The G30 has been my carry Glock for 5 years.:)
Thanks for all the replys. I found one, I'm gonna pick it up in a few days. What's supposed to come with it? A box, lock, mag, etc?
Two 10-round magazines, box, owners manual, cable lock, cleaning rod & brush, magazine loading tool, warranty registration card.:)

The mods I recommend are night sights, AGRIP!, and a pearce pinky extension instead of the stock (the stock SUCKS). I am debating a stainless guide rod *just in case*
What's the advantage of a stainless guide rod?

The advantage is more durability. The plastic stock rod *might* break, it has happened. A stainless rod will not break.

All I've ever done to mine was add AO Big Dot Express Tritium combat night sights, and ammo, and some holsters (Blade-Tech IWB, Fobus paddle, G-code Paddle).
I put 50 rounds through one and fell in love. Took a bit to buy it, but I've had mine three or maybe four(?) years now, and been carrying it for the last year and a half.

I've had mine since Dec 99 and carried it ever since. It was a Y2k gift to myself.

cant go wrong with the G30
Other than installing some nice Meprolight night sights, I hated the grooved trigger! WalterGA bailed me out, and suggested that I order a smooth-faced G21 trigger from TopGlock. For me personally, the smooth trigger makes all the difference in the world. You may find that the grooved trigger is not comfortable, as well. You'll love your purchase, especially when you find out how mild the recoil is on such a small gun.

Congratulations, I already have 2. The trijicons and guide rod are just about right. Oh yeah- lots of ammo!!!!! Have FUN!!!!!
My new G30 is a fine companion to my G17. I shot a rental at a range and decided I needed one ASAP.
I went to the range today to do some serious load work and sighting in for my .45/70 and one of my AR-15's. I carried my 30, of course, just as I always do. When I was done and was walking out to check my last groups on the 100 yard targets I spotted a tin can about 15 yards away. On impulse (no one else at our great range) I drew the 30 and made it dance, hitting it about half the time, including when it was moving. I was shooting Federal +P and I felt like I was shooting a .22.
It is a great gun, get one!
Hey Steelerfan, why do you need two? Just checking, since last year you are the one that convinced me to buy mine, maybe I need another one too!

How are ya, Tim? Always good to see ya' around.
I'm getting another one for consistency in our HD weapons.
Hey TimPhipps, need an answer. I have a G30; yep, it is one great gun - in fact I just completed a post the other day where people accused me of mayber trying to write commercials for Glock!
Now, here's the situation: have a G30, like the G32 and the G36 and I can't make up my mind. I like that zip in the .357 Sig but I like the size of the G36 for everyday carry everywhere. My G30 is good for carry but the little bit of extra beef has me carrying my P11 much of the time. There is the advantage of having another .45 caliber Glock and this makes for easier reloading on the Dillon.
I've seen so many different posts on the G36 and the G30 so I thought I would ask someone who has BOTH.
Thanks for your time and hey, remember out there, only 157 days until the USMC birthday!!!;I ;x ;x ;x
