Berto 01-10-2008, 20:23 Win +P+ 147gr jhp Hard to find anymore, probably switch to Buffalo Bore 158gr. stmcelroy 01-10-2008, 22:26 I've always like the .357mag 145gr Winchester Silvertip load. But there is a good chance I will switch to the .38sp 135gr Speer Gold Dot or possibly the 125gr Gold Dot Double Tap load in the near future. Mike2x 01-10-2008, 23:47 I own a 342PD 38spl. I also like the Speer Gold Dot 135's, and Federal Hi-shok 125's. The Federal Nyclad 125 has a wide hollow point but they're getting harder to find. G33 01-10-2008, 23:51 GD 135s for SB. Rob96 01-11-2008, 03:44 Right now I like the 125gr+p Golden Sabers in my 340PD. When I had my SP101 I loaded with the Win. 145gr Silvertips. 40SX 01-11-2008, 10:09 My always carry weapons are my S&W 340PD or my S&W M&P 340. They're always loaded with Winchester 145 grain .357 magnum Silvertip rounds, same goes for their speedloaders. Dennis KG4IDA 01-11-2008, 22:58 Before they dropped it, I liked Federal Nyclad in an airweight bodyguard. sphillips45 01-11-2008, 23:23 38 Special I like The Winchester +P 158 Grain Lead Hollow Point Semi-Wadcutter 357 Mag I like The Winchester 357 Magnum 158 Grain Jacketed Soft Point Warhorse 01-12-2008, 07:49 Yep, I like Gold Dot 135 grn +P, because everybody else likes 'em. But to control this round in the 340PD, I use the same grips S&W puts on the 640, cut off to boot grip length for pocket carry. These grips make a huge difference. ----------------------------- One of the most valuable skills a person can have is the ability to shoot a J-frame well. agarr 01-13-2008, 16:56 Federal 158 grain +P Lead Hollowpoints. Haven't tried the 135 grain GoldDots yet. GlockFish 01-13-2008, 19:42 J Frame? Gold Dot SB 135gr +P SP101? 158gr 357's (either Speer Gold Dot or Buffulo Bore 158gr) G27Chief 01-16-2008, 23:03 135 gr Gold dots or the old standby is the 158 gr federal nyclad when I can find them. The Goose 01-17-2008, 19:47 135 gr Gold dots or the old standby is the 158 gr federal nyclad when I can find them. Ditto. I still have a couple boxes of the Federal 158 gr. Nyclads, but not enough to really shoot them much anymore. Just about a year ago my local shop was still selling them for $9.95 a box. I should have bought a couple of cases at the time. I have been doing some practice with the 135 gr. gold Dots which seem readily available. In my 340PD I carry Speer 125 gr. Gold Dots in .357. 50 Cent 01-19-2008, 22:33 ....are stuffed with the FBI load, although I'm going to try a box of Buffalo Bore 158 gr standard pressure SWCHP tommorrow. Might end up being my new carry load. Coach22 01-20-2008, 09:28 Nickel 49 and 442: Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure 158's. 640 (38): Buffalo Bore 158 +P's. 340 PD: First 2 Corbon DPX 38+P Last 3 Double Tap 125 grain 38+P. The first 2 can be shot quickly and if needed, the last 3 at 1100 fps with the Speer bullet will do. I've shot the Corbon DPX 357's, the GDSB (38+P and 357) in the 340 PD and follow up shots are too slow. The Scandium barrels don't seem to like all lead bullets (keyhole). coach22 watsoncb 01-20-2008, 13:36 Due to customer demand, Buffalo Bore developed this defensive 38SPL ammo. Customers wanted some devastating 38SPL loads that would fill the following criteria. - It won’t hurt older/fragile/alloy revolvers. (Non +P) - Is effective as a “fight stopper” through the use of proper bullets. - Is more powerful than typical/standard, weak 38SPL ammo. - Generate much less recoil than our +P 38SPL ammo. - Is flash suppressed. Buffalo Bore introduced these three different heavy, yet standard pressure loadings for 38 SPL. These offerings are loaded at standard pressure, but they are much more powerful than normal 38SPL ammo. These loads will not harm older more fragile revolvers. So, these loads are safe for use in ANY 38 SPL revolver, provided it is in normal working condition. As stated above, the “POWER” level of these loads is really closer to a typical +P power level, but the pressure is standard. We are able to develop these powerful standard pressure loads with modern non-canister powders. Again, these loads recoil far less than our +P 38 SPL ammo. All three of these loads are flash suppressed, so firing them in the dark wont blind you. We use flash suppressed powder in our defensive ammo, in the loadings we can, because over 90% of all civilian shootings in America, occur in low light, when the criminal element is at work. We don’t want you blinded by your own gunfire after the first shot. I like the new standard pressure short barrel, low flash, HVY 38 spl. 150 grn hard cast wad cutter (850 fps/251 lbs) (Buffalo Bore ID 20D-150gr. It utilizes a very hard cast 150gr. WAD CUTTER bullet. The bullet is made hard, so it won’t deform or mushroom. It cuts/crushes a “cookie cutter”, full diameter hole in human flesh just like it does on a paper target. It penetrates deeply (roughly 14 to 16 inches in human tissue) and its full diameter profile maximizes blood loss as it cuts and crushes (not slips or slides) its way through tissue. The flat nose, literally hammers living things. These bullets are hard and properly lubed and will NOT lead your barrel. Buffalo Bore velocities from real world “over the counter” revolvers: a. S&W mod. 60, 2 inch barrel—868 fps (251 ft. lbs.) b. S&W mod. 66, 2.5 inch barrel—890 fps (264 ft. lbs.) c. Ruger SP101, 3 inch barrel—961 fps (308 ft. lbs.) d. S&W Mt. Gun, 4 inch barrel—1005 fps (336 ft. lbs.) I have tired Buffalo Bore's 158 +Ps and the recoil is stiff. The short barrelled and low flash Buffalo Bores are AAA+++ TedG 01-22-2008, 21:55 Back in the day....... when there wasn't the variety we now have, I used to load my own. Just put a 148 grain hollow-based wadcutter upside down over a good hot load... and voila. It was basically a summer-time load since I didn't trust it on heavy overcoats. A great snubbie load. nitesite10mm 01-30-2008, 13:46 Due to customer demand, Buffalo Bore developed this defensive 38SPL ammo. Rex G 02-10-2008, 00:58 I used Federal Nyclads for years in my Airweight snubby. My SP101 snubbies have edged out my J-S&W for a few years now, and my remaining Nyclads are old, so I guess it's time to buy a box of my second choice, the FBI load. Remington seems to be the available brand here locally. Edited to add: Just to be clear, I carry .357 loads in my SP101 snubbies, as I do in my larger sixguns. If it were not for the larger sixguns, I might well be using the FBI load in my SP101s. leidenheimer 02-10-2008, 13:08 Before they dropped it, I liked Federal Nyclad in an airweight bodyguard. I liked the Nyclads too. Were they unpopular and Federal dropped them? I'll be carrying 135gr+P GDHP when I get my 442. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
