Remember, some competitions have night fire stages! You also need to check out the XS "Big Dot" sights. Not much is faster than those in regards to front sight acquisition. I don't care for them personally, but many shooters love them. danielsand 01-10-2008, 11:19 This question is not easy to answer! Why? Because it's individual. We're all different. Different technique, experience, eyesight and other factors. For me,...without the doubt it's a "Ghost Ring" with Tritium inserts. I experimented with MANY sight set ups, and I have quite a few that I have no more use for, in my gun cabinet. Unfortunately, until you try different sights, you will not know what works best for YOU! MarcoPolo 01-10-2008, 11:50 It is a pretty subjective question, but in my opinion the answer may fall into two catgories: 1. Traditional sights (3 dot) which are easier to SEE (i.e. TruGlo TFO) and 2. Sights which are actually FASTER to pick up (i.e. XS Big Dots) I personally carry XS Big Dots on all my carry guns. Until I find anything that is a quick to acquire, I will continue to do so. vafish 01-10-2008, 11:52 I have XS Big Dot 24/7's on my carry gun. They are fast up close. But for USPSA shooting they are slower at a distance. I can't clear a plate rack fast with them. chewybaca67 01-10-2008, 12:03 What sights will give the fastest aquisition???? It sounds like you'll adapt quite well to what ever you choose dude. I.B.M. 01-10-2008, 12:52 +1 for the XS Big Dot 24/7's............ lastevolution 01-10-2008, 12:53 XS Big Dots are the only sights that I use. Can't beat them. Murphy's Law 01-10-2008, 12:55 I would think what you have on your pistol now would be sufficient. With the red fiber on front, it should stick out like a score thumb and that's where the focus needs to be (i.e. front sight). xrmattaz 01-10-2008, 12:58 :wavey:Another vote for the Big Dots. Nothing is quicker for close up work....and they work pretty dandy out to 25 yards or so, once you practice with 'em. Just realizing I don't have 'em for my G33! Off to shop..... Blue Duck 01-10-2008, 13:29 Opening up your Heinie (no jokes..) rear will make it faster on target. I've got the "Race Cut" rear Heinie and Dawson fiber optic front and have found it to be the fastest of all my setups, including the TFO's I have a on 21SF. As long as you don't have a really lousy sight set-up of some sort I think it's really far more a training issue than an equipment issue. As for competition LOTS of Glock shooters use the Heinie/Dawson combo. I've heard nothing good about the TFO for IDPA/IPSC type shooting. Most claim the front sight is simply way too big and the rear fiber optics just distract from the front sight. skeeter1959 01-10-2008, 13:42 Who sells the XS Big Dots? xrmattaz 01-10-2008, 13:53 You can order from the manufacturer here. http://www.xssights.com/store/handgun.html I.B.M. 01-10-2008, 14:02 You can order from the manufacturer here. http://www.xssights.com/store/handgun.html They are more expensive from the manufacturer..............Midway usually has them on sale. I can find them at several places cheaper than from XS direct. While I like their products, I must admit that when I called XS I wasn't too endeared to the person with whom I spoke with on the phone.....They won't get any "kindness" points from me, for sure. I inquired about a LEO discount and their "discount" was still going to cost me more (with shipping) than to order the sights from somewhere else, and they didn't seem to care one iota about talking to me to be frank, so I ended-up ordering them from Midway and got them for about $20 cheaper. xrmattaz 01-10-2008, 14:14 I haven't had a set of these sights in years, just realizing I need another. Originally, they were Ashley Big Dots.....anyone remember back then? I think based out of Texas perhaps. I think the company changed hands a number of years ago....I'm getting old. Midway is always good, I'll check there. (And......AG! I am the original INTERNATIONAL Black Man! I'm almost fifty and white.....doesn't matter, I claim the title.) Owl 01-12-2008, 19:03 http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=3887 $99 for a set here. I've done business w/ them before and they were fast and polite. Honorabledog 01-12-2008, 23:25 What sights will give the fastest aquisition???? I have a heinie back sight and a Dawson red fiber front sight. I was looking at the TroGlo front/rear green rod sights. Any opinion for shooting competion??? I have researched this and tried several different types and I've found that it truely is a personal choice. The xs bigdots are great for carry for me but they are not as accurate for a "competition sight". Fiber optic works well for the targets for me and now there are several versions with the night/fiber combo built into one. The heine/dawson combo works great also in competition as mentioned. For a cheap alternative and one that works the best for me actually is the hi-viz front with a modified stock rear that I simply blacked out. The rear was free with the gun and the front was $15 off ebay and has 6 different optics taht are green/red and different sizes. I don't know why but this cheap set-up works better for me than the most expensive ones I've purchased (for my glocks anyway):dunno: vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
