Someone felt like being a b*tch and hijacking my thread with some bull *****....so i'ma sum this up....
Don's guns :shame:
Pop Guns
Why are you even calling them?
I wish people would just stop going there to put them out of business.

Do you really think their "legitimate" sales are why they remain in business?
alex_velociti
01-10-2008, 18:48
Oh yeah you're right. I think i remember reading something about Don's Guns sales being linked to the most crimes. I forgot all about that.
I called 'cause they're the closest to me. I'm just now getting into guns and everything so i didn't know that much about them. This is only my second experience with them - but at least i didn't go up there :P
I would have been extremely pissed then.
Its truly ashame that a place like that could still be allowed to stay in business.

hey, let me assure you that ALL the things i sell are too expensive for you, over priced, not worthy of your business, and you can skip the experiment, don't bother ever trying to buy anything from me.
How's that? you won't ever have your feelings hurt by unfair gouging HERE..
we gouge FAIRLY. i own my stuff, i charge what the hell i please, you pay it or not, and i'll be as nice as i want to, and you can be as nice as it takes to buy my stuff at my price or i won't sell it to you.
that's how grownups do it. i think maseratis are HIDEOUSLY overpriced. waaah. i'm liking the hondas LOTS better. yaay.
how much does that matter 50 years from now? buy your ammo and grips where ever you want. realize sometimes stuff costs more in one place than another, you don't get a price match guarantee around the world. life is like that. pay it or DON'T. none of my business.. or Don's, come to think of it.

It's in Indianapolis.
I called 'cause they're the closest to me.
There are several places around where you would be much better served. Sportsman's Warehouse in Lafayette is a good one and not too far from you. Elmore's in Greenwood is another awesome place. Plenty of other suggestions in the forum.
I know Don's Guns is filled with idiots in the first place, but i'm extremely pissed at their prices!
I mentioned before how they tried to charge me $40.00+tax for a box of 20 165gr Corbons......which only cost about $23 anywhere else.
NOW, I call them to see if they have the Hogue Grips - they said the damn grip is $20 + tax. Thats some bull**** - excuse my french.
I wish people would just stop going there to put them out of business.
Well, do like the rest of us and don't go there. ;)

AAC Guns in Mooresville
Hell, I would rather buy from Gander Mountain than Don's. At least I don't feel like will be robbed in the parking lot and they don't actively support anti-gun legislation (that I know of at least). Not only that, even though they are over priced, they are STILL cheaper than Don's.

I like to shop Gander Mountain, even if I don't always buy there. Every once in a long while, I'll find a good deal there. If nothing else, they usually have a good selection so I can at least see if the one I'm looking for fits my hand.
Most Hogue grips DO run 18 - 20.00, unless you're looking for the slip-on jobbies, then they should be 10.00 or so.
What kind of Hogue are you looking for??
Don't get your knickers in a twist about Don's, it isn't worth the effort.
I went into Pop's for the first time today, and I can guarantee I'll never buy a firearm from them!! Way overpriced on guns, IMO, but some of the accessories looked to be alright on price.

You must not know about Don's. Aside from several hundred dollar Lorcins, he has the most gun traces come back to his shop. The fact that guns from his shop are used in crime more than any FFL makes me think some type of illegal activity is going on. It's beyond me why ATF hasn't, can't or won't pull his FFL.

Why not just refuse to buy from them?

I felt dirty for the rest of the afternoon both times I was there.

One more than I :)
I sold Don a vehicle a couple of years ago and he gave me a bunch of free range cards, a pocket knife and a sunglass holder. I went once and gave the rest away. What a place.

In my defense, one visit was before I really started taking the time to LEARN about firearms, ammunition, and the prices of said merchandise.
The second time was after I'd started learning...and reaffirmed my initial thoughts. "Anyone who buys anything here must want to overpay for underquality stuff."
-J-
The one time I was there was because a friend stoped by while we were at lunch. I could tell by his TV ads that it was not anywere I wanted to be. This was in the early 1980s
You cost too much I want you shut down:crying::crying::crying:

I gotta admit, I loved the TV ads. The one time I went, though, my wife and I bumped into him in the parking lot as we were leaving. I felt like I needed a shower afterwards.

I've got to hand it to ol Don, though. He's made a nice living for a lot of years based on people's ignorance and overspending!

I am assuming you don't live here or know who Don Davis is. ;)
Yes, the OP was only complaining about prices, but trust me, there are PLENTY of non-price related reasons why he shouldn't be in business. Just to give you an idea of what a class act this guy is, he openly supports "assault weapon" bans even though he friggin sells them and has commercials blantantly stating as such ("hey come on down and buy an AK!" type ads). He and his ads are so slimey they have gone viral on youtube. There are many, many more reasons. The prices are just the iceing on the cake (though, that hogue grip did sound about right in price). The worst part is that if there is any gun related news story and they want a gunshop owner's opinion, the media goes running to this goober for a sound bite. He is pretty much the living, breathing personification of what the Brady bunch feels all gun store owners are.
But, yes, I very much condone the OP to vote with his wallet and to pass the word along when possible to those who may not know.
where is this store located?
I believe he only has one remaining store, near 38th & Lafayette Rd. He used to have a huge indoor range at 96th & Keystone. It closed long before I got into guns so I never got to use it.

This is exactly my main complaint with him. For decades he has been the face of gun owners in Indianapolis, and he does not represent us well. He is a caricature, and the media loves him for it.
His prices don't affect me, because I never shop there. But the way he perpetuates the stereotype of a gun owner does affect me.

Yeah my first time going to Pop Guns was today. I also looked at the prices on guns - and yeah i would never buy one from them.
BUT, i liked the accessories. Got my hogue slip-on from them for $11 and i went ahead and purchased a Don Hume leather IWB holster.
I mean, Pop Guns is so much better IMO just because of the customer service. I mean, they were nice as hell. I liked the environment also. The lady that works there was extra nice too. There's like a cold feeling when u walk into Don's guns.
Not to mention the gun range prices.
Don's website says $13/1/2 hour but its really like 18 for 1/2 hour.
Pop guns has $18 for a full hour.
Oh, did i mention customer service? Lol
I'm a big customer service freak - u treat me right, and i'll treat you right.
Its not even that much about the prices. Pop guns doesn't have the cheapest prices, but i guarantee i'll always go there for life - just because i had a good first experience.

First off, i was its meant to inform others who have NOT been to Don's Guns....and no, i didn't buy **** from them.
I am new to this gun thing - just because YOU know about Don's does not mean anyone else does.
You're just being a dick....for whatever reason.
And if you honestly think there's something wrong with informing others about the prices of their local shops....something must be wrong with you.
Its funny, you call me a dip***** and say i have no life........but you're the guy from Ohio snooping around in Indiana's forum. Find something better to do with your life and stop trying to be an E-Thug.
For the posters who actually responded well, thank you.
For the one person who felt like getting big over the internet.....well yeah....find something else to do.
This is simply a post about my personal rating/review of two local gun shops......the ONLY two that i have experience with.
Guess this is my last post, can't believe i wasted time responding to your ignorance anyway.

While Driving down to the 1500 from South Bend this morning I was mentioning the thread to the guy who was going with me. His response was we should check them out for look. We didn't have time but I may do it in the future. I don't have to buy and even a glimmer of sliminess and I won't buy. Its good to check out things anyway to form your own opinion. Although from lurking and occasionally posting here its highly unlikely I would make a special effort to go and wouldn't buy anything unless it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

True or false: Don was a body guard for Jimmy Hoffa? I've heard it, but don't know if it can be substantiated. Anyone?
I've been in Don's. The people just are not right. One fellow was telling a customer he answers the door with his gun pointed at the person. Brilliant...
Aside from saying they are overpriced and you don't like them, they have a right to do business. I choose not to give them money, but it is a free country.
I will say that I like Pop's. I have bought a few guns around town, and Pop's prices are high. However, they have been good to work with, have discounted for me, and have a nice range. I am willing to pay a bit extra from time to time to support a clean, respectable store that has a range. I want them to succeed.
If I had to choose two stores in the state that I feel consistantly provide good pricing without hassles, I'd say Plainfield and Midwest Gun Exchange.
I will never set foot in Don's again. Just not a place I want to be. Plainfield has this tall, scary guy, but he is mostly harmless... :whistling:

Is Don's really that bad? I've read a lot of trash-talk about the place over the years, here, but from his website the store looks pretty nice. Is it in a rough area of Indy or something? What's the condition of the range? Don's can't be any worse than a select couple of stores we have in South Bend.
I'm thinking about going to one of the 1500's this year and I'm going to visit Don's and get the full experience.
I realize this is the Indiana forum and that I'm from Virginia but I just wanted to let you all know it's happening all across the country. One of my favorite dealers has turned into a price gouging opportunist as well. The employees have always been worthless but now he's trying to scare customers into paying over inflated prices but putting display signs of Hillary up around his shop with captions like, "Get them before she gets into office!" :frown:
It's a good thing I found an excellent shop in downtown Norfolk that not only has outstanding employees but great prices and an owner that would rather fight for our gun rights than take advantage of them.
Plainfield has this tall, scary guy, but he is mostly harmless... :whistling:
Hey, I resemble that remark :tongueout:
Haven't really worked there since June '07. Now, I'm in the MCSD Deputy academy, and will be working at the City/County Building after I graduate.
Bob may not love me any more since I didn't work the gunshow this weekend - 2 weeks of Criminal Law coming up, and a boatload of reading to do.... :crying:
Back on topic, I'd always heard DD was Teamster muscle, and Hoffa's bodyguard. No proof, and can't ask Jimmy, so I guess it belongs in the urban legend category.

The only reason to go to the 1500 is for reloading supplies. Primers are normally a good deal, by today's standards, ($100-$110/5000), powder normally isn't priced all that well.

Making stuff up? No...but I do recall your trolling your way through a Caliber Corner thread last July, titled "Bear Power", attempting to convince everyone you could brain a charging brown bear with your AR.
This sample of your "expertise" sound familiar?
Nice try Dickweed. If you don't like what i say then don't read it. I know for a fact I could hit a charging bear with my AR. I can accurately shoot any of my AR's at a rate of 4-5 rounds per second and make well executed hits!
It's a pretty colorful thread, at least from the standpoint of you trying to lecture others and knowing that everyone knows you're spreading BS. You were out of line trying to lecture alex on his comments about Don's Guns. To borrow one of your tough guy come-backs, "If you don't like what (he) says then don't read it".
Run along now and find some other forum to troll on. We'll do fine here in our benighted Hoosier wanderings, and we don't need you to come lead us out of the Wilderness. Remember...you might be able to BS a BS'er, but you can't "snow" the Snowman.

There is a fine line between being opinionated and being an ass. I believe you've crossed it.
First of all, I did not create this site to give anyone a place to attack someone else's business. If you want to do so, do it on your own nickel. Secondly, some of the behavior I have seen in this thread is completely unacceptable. Anyone who wants to continue participating here needs to keep a civil tongue in their heads. Eric
