Most times a barrel/mag change is all that is necessary. This past sunday dropped a Federal 9mm conversion barrel into a friends G27. Fed, fired, and ejected 400 rounds flawlessly. And this was using the .40 mag. Shot to same POA as the .40 barrel.

Why practice with a 9 if you're carrying a .40?

I know ammo is cheaper, but is the practice really doing you any good?

that is a good question. i used to wonder that myself. then i started thinking....and i realized that i first learned my marksmanship with a pellet gun, then moved up. so, i don't thinkt that the differance in recoil is really a factor for learning proper sight picture. but then again, i could be very wrong.

My 9mm conversion barrel from Lone Wolf functions flawlessly in my G22. I really don't even consider it "practice", per se, when I shoot 9mm, just warm up. I mean, I could shoot 300 rounds of .40 in a range trip, or warm up with 100 rds of 9, then practice with 250 rds of .40 for the same money. I choose the latter. More bang for my bucks, but still plenty of .40 practice.

For what it's worth, I don't recommend the extended, compensated barrels. This is what I got, and while the extended barrel looks cool sticking out the front of the gun, it turns my front sight almost black in 100 rds. I have to take a q-tip and hoppes#9 to the range to clean the sight between 9 & .40 shooting. Oh well, live and learn.
