View Full Version : I have a couple questions
1. I'm currently getting out of the army and moving back to TX. I was interested in doing my own Executive protection work. Does anyone know who offers the best classes now for the money? I remember S.W.A.T. in Ennis used to be pretty good.
2. What is the legal barrel length on a carbine in TX?

1. To do EP work in Texas one must be registered as a PPO and Commissioned Guard thru the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau, and be employed by a licensed company.
Have you done EP work before? If you just need the basic licensing I can refer you to a couple of places. If you would like more advanced training I can refer you to that too.
2. Rifles cannot have a barrel shorter than 16 inches, and the overall length of the gun cannot be shorter than 26 inches unless pursuant to registration under the NFA.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I have not done EP work before. I knew about the required licensing but I wanted the more advanced training. I was 10th Mountain Light Infantry. We've done some escort missions but I doubt it was close to EP. I would like to take what I learned in the military and apply it to a civilian world. I remember S.W.A.T. offered a week long course that covered all licensing and some really good training. There site doesnt look so hot now though.
I really wanted to pick my own jobs. I was going to use it as a second source of income. I don't have the time to do serious executive work (out of country, etc). Is there a loop hole to work for myself?
Yes, I would like some recommendations on the advanced training. Jacobs page definately caught my eye after reading it. I would like to know what his advanced training has to offer along with prices. Those are not listed on his page.

The only way to work for yourself is to get licensed as either a Guard Company or Investigations Company. If you are interested in trying that, shoot me a private message and I'll send you some links, etc.
If not, and you are locating to the DFW area I may have some options for you. PM me.
For advanced training;
This is my top recommendation; http://www.tftt.com/training/vip/
I have been to several of his classes, and he is the real deal.
Max Joseph is the founder and training director of both TFTT and the Direct Action Group. Max has been involved in Special Operations and training non-stop for the last 21 years. He has trained and worked with Counter-Terrorist officers and troops from Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South America. In addition to running TFTT/Direct Action Group full time, Max also proudly served as the Senior Instructor for the Tactical Explosive Entry School from 1993-2005 both in the United States and Brazil. He is recognized as a subject matter expert in explosives for Tactical Breaching and other Special Operations. He also has extensive experience in Executive Protection and has worked details in Central America, South America, Eastern Europe and Afghanistan. He is currently still operational in several capacities both in and out of CONUS.
Blackwater also has a very high quality school;
