View Full Version : Accidental Magazine release!
I have looked briefly thru the Archives, but didn't find the information I needed...if I overlooked it I apologize...;g
I carry my G-27 in a side pocket of my brief case which is constructed of fairly hard leather.
On several occasions when I removed the weapon the magazine had been released...
If I lay my weapon on a flat surface and push down on it, the magazine release button will be pushed just far enough to release the magazine!!!
This G-27 is a 1997 model even though it was just purchase as a new gun...it had been in inventory.
Is there a shorter button available to prevent this? or have newer models been modified from mine?
Any corrective suggestions would be appreciated...
The thought of presenting a weapon and finding the magazine is released is not a happy one...:(
Thanks,
WalterB

The very first old Glock17's had shorter magazine releases than what is currently in production.
Good luck finding one..:)

You can prolly grind down the one you have to make it shorter..
If you mess it up, just order a replacement.

I have a 27 and I couldn't make it release no matter what I did on a flat surface. It does have a Uncle Mike's grip sleeve on it but that's less than a sixteenth of an inch thick. Did you add or have added an extended magazine release?

Even though it was "new" could the extension have been added before you bought it?
I can't make my 27 release by pushing is on a flat surface. I could see it happening in a brief case if there was something between the release and the other surface.

Drachen27 and Fireglock...I don't think an extension could have been added...it was brand new and only nite sights were added.
The "button" seems to stickout pretty far when I compare it to pictures in the "Glock Annual" magazine...
I quess i need to discuss this with one of the on-line Glock company's...
Thanks for your information...

Based on everyones' ideas and looking at the pictures I've seen...I really think this pistol has an extended magazine release button...
I ordered a stock release from "Top Glock" for a quick comparision...
Is this something I can change out myself???
Thanks again for the help...

You sure can. It's easy.
It sounds to me like you may not be carrying your 27 in a holster. If you have the pistol in a holster I can't see the mag ejecting.
If you have a round chambered, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a holster for your pistol. In my mind, the holster is a "saftey" as much as any other safety.
Then again, if you have the pistol in there without a round in the chamber, I would HIGHLY recommend putting a round in the chamber and buying a nice holster.
Just my .02...

After you're all done installing the new mag catch, I'd also get an Agrip. It will also aid in helping to stop un-intentional mag releases.

Thanks for the info...I carry the 27 with a "Safe-T-Blok"...The pouch in the brief case contains nothing else and when it not there it's in my "Galco" on my hip...:D
I'm almost positive now that the pistol has an extended mag release button...
I bought the gun new, but I'm beginning to believe
it was previously owned...:(
Thanks for you comments...all are helpful...

I put an extended release on my 23, thought it would be a good idea, make mag. changes faster and easier...All it did was make it possible for my Fobus holster to push the mag. release and drop my mags.on the ground. Took them out and solved the problem (that I made myself). that may be your problem. If it is your new part will fix it.

The most difficult thing to change is that stupid catch.
IN FACT...it's the only part that the Armorer's tool WON'T HELP YOU WITH!
You need a small blade screwdriver.
and...if you won't get the Lenny Magill video on detail stripping..see: CLICK HERE (http://www.glockmeister.com/magrel.html)
