I have a standard 18" 500 that I would like to put a tritium bead on for home defense at night (the only time the shotgun is out of the safe). I do NOT have a rear and do not desire one, so I do not want a front that requires a ghost ring. Brownells has some that are reasonably priced, but I was wondering if anyone has good or bad things to say about any particular brands. This is for a 5-40 thread, and I do not wish to change to the larger Remington size, so please don't suggest any beads that only come in that size. Thanks in advance.

XS sight systems has the Big Dot tritium bead (and others) which work well, both pistol and shotgun models. The shotgun has the option, like the pistol, of the Express rear (a wide shallow V) but nobody said you have to put it on, you can just mount the bead with tritium dot.

Thanks Mr. Murphy. I'm not so sure about XS. First, they are almost 3 times the amount I can get a Marbles bead for (Trijicon inserts), and most models epoxy, which does not sound like a good idea to me. The only screw-in also only fits the Remington. Thanks for your input, though. I'll probably go with the marbles, but I want to see if anyone knows of anything better

I've got their pistol sight on my G30, have for years, and I've messed around with the shotgun model while having mine installed in their factory. It's near impossible to miss in daytime, at night, it's a standard tritium vial.
Hi-Viz makes a fiberoptic model that mounts using the original bead, around $25 and they, with ANY (i'm talking night light down the hallway level) illumination give you the glowing death dot of your choice of color. My dad wears trifocals and he went from blindly pointing a shotgun barrel down a dark hallway (illustration purposes for him) to "i'm aiming right THERE". This was on a 18.5" 500.

Hmm. Thanks for the info, didn't really consider a fiberoptic. What do you think of Truglo? Any experiences with them. I believe they make a combination tritium and FO, but I can't get a good source for them. Also, were you talking about Marbles or XS on your G30?

I've got one of those sights on a 500 and they are really nice.
