I'm looking into different 45 FMJ ammo for practice with my new G30.
Wolf 230 GR $7.50/Box or $120/1000
CCI 230 GR $10.17/Box
UMC 230 GR $12.84/Box
PMC 230 GR $10.79/Box
Amercian Ammunition $169/1000
Which one should I go with (based on your experiences) that will cause the least problems (for the price) ?
I don't have any experience with Wolf .45 or Wolf in a Glock but I can tell you that in one box of 9mm I had 4 failures to fire in my SP101. And the 46 rounds that did fire left my gun dirtier than when I've put 200 rounds of CCI Blazers through it. I'd avoid it.
I like CCI's for practice ammo, they're cheap, moderatly clean, and I've never had one go click. If you reload you won't like them though because the aluminum cases aren't reuseable.
UMC isn't bad either but it's expensive for practice ammo.
I've never shot PMC so I can't comment on that one.
I've been told not to use American Ammunition in a Glock. It's plated, not jacketed and so lead can build up. See http://www.frontsight.com/safety.htm for details on what American Ammunition has done to a Glock 21.

I had 5 failures in one box of 50 rounds of Wolf. Never had a problem with Blazer, it's $7.99 for a box of 50 through Natchez (www.natchezss.com)

American Ammo is not good. You can get Selier & Bellot for about the same price at www.outdoor-source.com

I have shot a lot of PMC and really like it.
If you plan to reload and don't mind retrieving your spent brass, UMC would be my choice. Otherwise the Blazer is hard to beat.

CCI 230 GR $10.17/Box
UMC 230 GR $12.84/Box
PMC 230 GR $10.79/Box
Great practice ammo. As others have stated, if you do not reload, Blazer is very hard to beat. I would also recommend American Eagle from Federal. It is the most accurate out of my Kimber and I get it locally for about $10-11/box.
Wolf 230 GR $7.50/Box or $120/1000
Not reliable. Smells very odd. Hard primers. I experienced about 2-3 rounds per 50 that were duds.
Amercian Ammunition $169/1000
I wouldn't ship this stuff to my worst enemy. Not reliable. Dirty. Inconsistant OAL (scary).

Blazer or S&B.
Wolf is safe but a pain, American Ammo should not be used.

My experience would rule out American Ammunition, since a defective .45 ACP AA round exploded my G30 into pieces. Never again.
I can vouch for CCI Blazer as a cheap, decent practice ammo, although not reloadable if that's your thing.
Also, generally, the "second" label of a major brand is usually ok. For example, American Eagle is Federal's "second" label (IIRC) and that stuff is ok. Winchester "White Box" (or "White label?") is good too.

PMC 1000 rounds for $190. I think this is a pretty good deal.

Not bad, but you can get a case of CCI Blazer for about $20 less at:

I just received a case of CCI Blazer from Kieslersonline.com. Price including shipping ( from Indiana to Maryland )was $150. Boxes were marked "Reclassified - not for law enforcement use". Just practice ammo, so that's OK with me.

I use S&B, UMC/Remington and CCI Blazer interchangeably.
S&B .45 ACP FMJ is $180 per 1000 plus shipping and handling here:

My first choice in factory ammo of any caliber is Federal's American Eagle. Second choice is Blazer. Third choice is Winchester USA (not WinClean).
I have been to 16 GSSF matches in the last three years and have seen countless problems with folks using Wolf, American, and Winclean.

For range ammo I have been shooting Wolf in a Glock 30. Have shot over 4K rounds through it without 1 problem. Generally paying 63/500 rounds on GunBroker or 55/500 in a couple of ads in ShotgunNews.com.
Tried surplus Mil ball ammo also 6.50/box of 42 rounds. I had 2 no fires on the primers.
The Wolf is a little dirty, but no more than S&B or Cor Bon.

I've found the 230 gr. Speer Lawman to be a fine round for practice--I just bought a batch from Champion Sporting Goods in College Station, TX for just a shade over $10 a box. It is fairly clean-firing ammo at a good price.

I've shot about 4k rounds of Wolf through my G30 without a single problem, until about a week ago. I picked up one of my cases and it was split. I have been told that there have been instances of double-charging, squib loads, and seperated case heads with WOlf ammo. I have decided to switch to S&B instead.
I recommend either S&B or Blazer for inexpensive practice ammo.
Good Luck!!

Blazer is great for the money, if you're not planning on reloading. Stay away from Wolf, have had many malfunctions and seems to be really dirty. Blazer is cheap from www.natchezss.com, but their shipping prices are a little steep.

I'll second that. I can get it for 10.49 a box at the local LEO supply place down the road. 100% reliable!

You can get Sellier & Bellott, .45ACP 230GR, 50 in a box for $8.25, plus shipping from Natchez.HTH

I have found the S&B to be very consistent practice ammo, I have had no problems at all with it other than it is a little dirty.
Check Walmart. I just picked up 2 boxes of CCI 230gr for $9.87/box. They also had Winchester USA 40S&W 180gr for $8.87/box!! Who says 9mm is the cheapest to shoot??

I don't know... I can still get Winchester White Box 9mm at my local sporting goods store for $6.99/50. But that is a good price... I'm going to see if that's the price here, as well.
I shot one box of the Wolf .45 back before everyone was posting their failures... I had no failures at all but it was very dirty.
I usually shoot S&B or Winchester White Box. I can get both locally for $10.49 or $10.99. And whenever I order from Natchezss, I usually pick up about 250 rounds of their Blazer .45.
Wow, that is a low price, even for 9mm. I don't know though, there is just something inherently pleasing about a .400 or .451 hole in a target (as opposed to a .355). ;)
