This one is the snubby, 2 inch bbl, adj sights. Made in 1954.
Very good little shooter, esp for plinking. It's always the gun that comes out when someone complains of how inaccurate small handguns are.
Today I shot at the local indoor range to give my eyeballs a rest from the usual 25yrd outdoor shooting I do.
Range was 10yrds and groups of 10 were shot using CCI Stingers, Mini Mags and Wolf Match.
Having chrono'd the two CCI loads before, I know the Stingers hit 1050fps (avg) and the Mini Mags avg about just over 900fps.
I haven't chrono'd the Wolf yet.
Groups went 2" for each type, add and subtract an 8th of an inch, best and worst with the wolf going at little above POA and the two CCI loads dead on at this range.

Fun little gun. The grips are Spegels, Cocobolo.
I've been waffling back and forth between one of these in nickle or a snubby 317. I need to get off my ***** and decide.
BTW, Berto; unless that second photo is deceiving me, you have your plate screw where the yoke screw should go...
.
Nice grips!

Yeah, it's been like that since I bought it. The plate screw is machined by whoever had it so it holds the yoke in without binding.
I DO need to fix that though.:embarassed:

I was just going to comment on that. Who makes 'em?

Berto, Sweet gun! BTW, I also like the CCI stingers and mini mags.
Just curious, what would be your pick for a current production stainless snubbie in .22LR? Thanks.

Man, tough choice regarding what's out there now.....
The .22lr Ruger SP101 is no longer being produced.
The only stainless model 63 (j frame ) .22lr has a frickin 5" barrel.
So, you either have to compromise a little and go with the S@W 317, which isn't actually stainless, but alloy and comes in either a fixed 2" or adjustable sight (high viz) 3" bbl.
Or, consider the Taurus 94, which is a stainless snubby available with adj sights.
Just be sure to inspect before you buy, if you go that route. I've owned a number of Taurus revolvers and they have been good, but quality is hit and miss...many I see in the case at shops aren't 'right'.
If you inspect and get a good one, they are perfect for what you're seeking.

Thanks, Berto. That's the gun. Ever since Russ posted this picture (it's a 617) in another thread, I've been on a mission to find this gun in a snubbie J-Frame configuration. The 317 is it!

Need to make note here that the finish on this is a custom bead blast surface by Matt, I believe the trigger and hammer are polished, and the grips are Nill-Grips from my friend, Robert Chappell, Charlie Lima Accessories, Walkerton, VA 804-769-0368.

I know its probly a stupid question...but what is a "kit gun" I hear people talking about when referring to some .22 snubbies...:embarassed:

Back in the 'day, fishing or hunting tackle was often referred to as 'kit'- a box of stuff, accessories for that sport or activity.
Fishermen and Hunters often liked the idea of a small handgun as a take-along for harvesting small game, shooting snakes and plinking, and since small autos suck ass, it was typically a revolver like the older M and I frame S@W's like the Terriers and Ladysmiths. The model .22/32 (.22 on a .32 frame) started being marketed as the 'Kit Gun' and the 'improved' I frames they were initially built on became the J frame from then on ( around 1953). They usually have adjustable sights, reflecting their sporting orientation.
