I am an Ohio resident, and live pretty close to the border with Indiana. I have been told that I must also abide by Ohio's restrictions while I am in Indiana too.

Example: A person with a CHL may not carry into an establishment that serves alcohol while armed in Ohio. Now Indiana doesn't have that nonsense but due to one part of the Indiana code I would be in violation of the law if I entered an establishment that serves alcohol while armed because I must also follow Ohio's restrictions. Here is the what I found--the bold part is the one that concerns me.

Looks like what I was told is true unless someone has a different opinion on this.

IC 35-47-2-21
Recognition of retail dealers' licenses and licenses to carry handguns issued by other states

(a) Retail dealers' licenses issued by other states or foreign countries will not be recognized in Indiana except for sales at wholesale.

(b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.
As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32.

You must abide by any and all restrictions appearing on your license, i.e. if the license has printed on it, "carry while hunting or target shooting only," you may only carry while engaged in those activities in IN. Another example, if the license says "concealed carry license" or similar, you must carry concealed in IN, as open carry is only legal with a license and your license does not permit open carry, regardless of whether your home state requires a license to open carry.

Also note, IN does not allow the carrying of weapons, only handguns. Your license affords you no protections beyond carrying of a handgun.

As far as carrying at restricted venues in IN, unless your license has "no carry in drinking establishments" or similar printed on it, you'll be able to carry in a drinking establishment.

Here's the litimus test, you must abide by restrictions printed on the license including no carry venues, barring any restrictions specific to the license, you may carry to all venues as perscribed by the Indiana Code (the same as one licensed in IN).
