What all is involved in changing the front sight on a Glock 2nd gen 22?

The stock front site will just knock right out from the bottom with a punch, and a new sight will usually bolt on from the bottom. Make sure you use some locktite, as it'll try to work its way loose after alot of shooting. Very easy DIY project!!

+ 1 to WAS.

Most front sights come with a little socket to tighten the sight. My Ameriglo FS's did.

Only metal replacement sights use a little screw; you will need a small nut driver made to fit the screw head.

If you are replacing your sight with another stock plastic one, it is a little different. Pull the old plastic sight off with a pair of pliers, or you can punch it out from the bottom. Your new plastic sight will come with a very tiny plastic pin. Push the tabs on the bottom of the new sight into its hole in the slide, then turn the slide upside down. Use a pair of tweezers or a needle nose plier to push the pin (narrow end down) into the gap between the two tabs. Push the pin in as far as it will go and you're done. Pretty easy.

The Glock steel front sight and the Glock night sight are crimped (staked) in. You can just twist it out. If you are replacing your sight with either if the above you should use a Glock staking (crimping) tool. I just did mine and it was very easy.

My 22C front sight appears to have a cotter pin through the bottom of it. Are you sure it will punch right out??

Yes the stock front sight will push right out. I've done it many times.
