GLOCKTALKERS!!! I've posted about it before but my first novel just went nationwide today. "Crossing the Line" is an action/adventure about the current immigration problems and the "What if's..." that we talk about so much here on Glocktalk. It's a story with something for everyone and was written with the everyday, down-to-earth, American, like you and I, in mind. It's got guns, guts, comedy, and some serious topics to consider.

The book is available now at amazon.com, target.com, walmart.com, parable.com, alibris.com, tatepublishing.com and will be in bookstores all across the country. Of course you can always purchase it from my website glennrambo.com I promise you, you won't be disappointed if you purchase it.

Thanks again and I appreciate all your support!!

Rambo,
I am going to purchase it, for now I can't really read it simply because I am writing my Master's Thesis this spring, so I will be swamped. But I do intend to read it as soon as I get a chance, then maybe I will look at having mine published as well.

Good Luck

Congradulations! I'll try to pick it up next time I drop by Wallyworld. How long did it take you to finish it?

Thanks Robalero for the intrest, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. All the best with that Thesis. Hey Scarecrow I finished it in Sept 2006...yeah the publishing world is that slow of a process..lol It took me about seven months to write but would have been much shorter had I disciplined myself. I'm flying through the sequel which I hope to have done by the end of this month. Thank you again.

Six months? Wow not bad. How long is it in total? So far I've been writing for a little over a month now but have been expanding upon the same premise for close to four months.

My third project which was sidelined for the Crossing the Line and Holding the Line is a Domestic Terrorism story that does have a hot rich chick in it...lol I REALLY need to get back to that one. Over 42,000 words done on it.
My current projects have a very attractive News Reporter and a firey Latino senior producer. (she's based on a real life person...of which I can't tell you...lol) I will tell you this.... anything I do with "hot women" and "hot scenes" I run PAST certain women and get thier approval. Thanks for not charging for that advice...LOL

The book is 317 pages about 95,000 words. I find that when I'm in a groove I can slam out several thousand words at a shot. I've found myself in a slump lately but the headlines that have been going on at the border have caused me to pick up the pace. The promise of book sales has done it too...lol Keep at it Scarecrow.

Yeah, I'll have days were I'll be able to write a couple good pages but then once every week or two, typically on the weekends, I'll be able to write a 15 page chapter in a matter of hours without stoping.

One question: how long should the "opening sequence" to a book be in your opinion. My book follows a character in modern times, but also contains a second story about the same character seveal years in the past. If I am correct, the opening sequences for the modern story line and past storyline our a little over 20 pages in total in size 12 font with single or 1.5 spacing. Is this sufficient?

Is their any chance, now that its published and copyrighted, that we could get an excerpt of the first chapter or something on the board or you website?

“Crossing the Line” Copyright 2007 by Glenn Rambo. All rights reserved.

California-Mexico border: The desert just north of the Mexicali area.

“Shhh. Ralentissez Miguel. Nous avons l’abondance de temps.”
The pair continued crawling on their bellies through the unforgiving deserted terrain about 150 yards over the US border, into the United States. Dressed in all black garb they carried nothing but two tools for this occasion. The moon was new, the sky was dark, and a warm breeze was blowing. They were more confident now then ever. They crept closer and closer to their destination; a US Border Patrol truck parked with its lights out, pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
This team had now been crawling for over two hours, covered in sweat and sand. They had covertly surveyed and tested this area for motion sensors, sound detectors and cameras for 11 months. Satisfied, they were now able to carry out their prime objective.
“Allumez la possibilite nocturne.” His partner reached forward and turned on the night vision scope and zeroed in on their objective.
“A’quelle distance loin?”
“73 metres.” was the reply given.
“La pousse quand vous etes prets.”
Several minutes went buy and some small adjustments were made in both the scope and their position to allow a prime view of both front seat passengers.
At 4 minutes after 3 o’clock in the morning two very loud gunshots rang out from south of the Border Patrol truck’s location. No more sounds were heard and no movement could be seen in the truck. The pair turned and began crawling back at a much faster pace toward their homeland of Mexico, disappearing into the sand as if a part of it.

CROSSING THE LINE is a fast paced action thriller that takes the reader to the heart of one of today’s most controversial topics; illegal immigration. Join civilians, police officers, journalists and the military as they join together after being placed into one of the most dangerous situations the Continental United States has ever faced. CROSSING THE LINE takes on the ever growing problem and asks the “What ifs…” that most people are wanting to hear. CROSSING THE LINE promises to be a page turner and a book that won’t soon be forgotten.

Sorry for the delay... The opening sequence should capture the reader right away but not be too long. You can time warp but be real careful how you do it and make it very apparent. I've seen many opening sequences start with the "past" and then open an actual chapter with the current or present day story. JUST a suggestion I am by NO means and expert...lol All the best with it. And yes I single space with size 12, the publisher will tell you what else to do and change the format if neccesary.

I'm up to the 5th chapter but I took a two day break to let my engines cool off and to give me a fresh perspective. I'm planning to write a few pages later tonight, depending on how I'm feeling. I was going to edit everything I've written so far, but I've decided to wait until I've finished the entire rough draft (hopefully a little more than 200 pages) and then edit everything. Based upon the little editing I did in the first chapter, I might easily add on 50 or more pages just from editing.
