View Full Version : Between a rock and a hard place...
I come to my friends at GT for some insight and assistance. Until recently, I was employed a central Indiana police department for 5 1/2 years. I left there and started working at another agency in NW Indiana by my wife's family with the intentions of living and working a posperous 30 years at that agency. However, my family ran into problems as my house would not sell in this market and the pay difference started us on a downward spiral of bill non-payment. I have decided that the only way to remedy this situation is to stay in the Indy area. I have spoken with my old chief, and he has informed me that "it is not his policy to re-hire past employees." (Even though this employee was invovled in SWAT, K-9, bike patrol and recieved 2 letters of commendation and a medal of merit from said chief..:steamed:)
But anyway, I digress. I am now in the steadfast search for gainful employment and was curious if any GT member had a line on a job that would pay the bills. I know everyone and their brother is trying for law enforcement right now, as I am too. Right now though, I just need something to put food on the table.
Need any help at the range sjstill?
If you guys here of anything, please let me know.
Thanks,
JSX
Kokomo Police Department and Howard County Sheriff Department are both supposed to test this spring. I believe that KPD is in April and HCSD is in May. I know they both prefer prior experiance whether it be in county corrections or on the street.

Sounds like your chief has a personal problem with you. It's absurd to not hire someone with all of your training already completed and paid, especially since his department paid for it.
Are you interested in working in any other counties? You might try Boone Co. Sheriff's Dept. and see if they need anyone. It's a good group with a good boss. They're probably the best trained (firearms-wise) department in the state. Even if they're not hiring, Sheriff Campbell may be able to point you toward some opportunities.
Good luck!
Yeah my old boss is dinkus.....still gets me ticked off............
Anyway,
I'm putting in all over the place. The bad part is, that I can't sell my house and that unfortuantely means living restrictions for other counties and cities. I'm already on up north, but still can't sell the house. At this point, I'm just looking for truck driving, sales, etc. just to get back to Indy. :worried:
Jim,
Sorry to hear about your fix, I wish I could assist. Heck, I'm not even sure about my future at the range at this point in time.
If I hear anything, I'll holler.
Does anyone have any insight into Indiana Parole? I see they are hiring Parole Officers in Indy, just wondering if anyone had some good information on their operations - hours, cars, firearms, etc.
I'm not reading your situation clearly...
Are you currently employed as a police officer in NW Indiana?
I am currently working at Rensselaer IN PD, in an attempt to relocate my family up NW by my wife's folks. My house has been on the market for about 4 months and once the "Sub-Prime Mortgage (BS)" hit the fan, we stopped receiving any calls. So, since we can't relcoate, we have to stay in Indy. I called my old chief, and he informed me that it is not his policy to re-hire past employees. (See OP for rant :steamed:.) So this leads me to the current dilemma, finding anything here in Central Indiana to keep diapers on the kid. I am not beyond going back to Menards since I worked there in high school, but, given the opportunity, I'd like to stay in the realm of LE to keep my powers active. I am in the IMPD process, but we all know how that goes.
Hope that makes it clear as mud...

It's been a long time since I looked at the job market, but I remember a
favorable response from the State Excise Police to interview. Also Hamilton
County would be good to look into.
Parole Officer was mentioned above and I'm pretty sure if you contact DOC's
main office downtown they can direct you to someone to speak with.
(Although their case loads are awful).
How about Mall Ninja

Couldn't help myself ;)
Looking at Excise, just takes time to get the police processes rolling. I have found a couple of other options coming up, just have to interview and hope they like me
As for mall ninja? Been there, done that! 3 1/2 years at Circle Centre and Greenwood Park. In all actuality, it was a great job, pay was okay for college, and I met some great people and contacts that I am still friends with. As a matter of fact, I'd go back if I could get a Director spot.
Thank you everyone for the help and insight.
