I broke down the G30 I just purchased before firing it for the first time and see that it has an entirely different type of recoil spring guide rod than in my G22, a two piece design. Anyone know why the different design?
Thanks.
The two piece guide rod in the G30 significantly softens the recoil and jump of that short barreled large bore gun. I shoot a G19 and a G30 and find the recoil about the same even though there is a considerable difference in the calibers. My 30 also shoots softer than my Kimber Classic with a full length guide rod and 5" barrel.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy those follow up shots.

Catfish -
Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I was at a gunshow awhile back and someone was selling two piece recoil spring guide rods for all sorts of autos, claiming that it would lessen the recoil. I didn't really look too closely at what he was selling at the time. Now I wonder about adding something like that to my G22.
It will work great, try Wolff Gunsprings at http://gunsprings.com
I've replaced my standard G30 recoil guide rod and spring system with a Wolff non captured guide rod 21# spring and guide rod - I can change spring weight to the wieght I need for a certain load ie... .45 super, 450 smc etc... I've got the Wolff system in my G27 also. The steel guide rod and guide tube from Wolff work great... they have one for your G22 also. You can pick the weight of spring you want and they send you the Guide rod and it's spring, the Guide tube and it's spirng and a firing pin spring for approx. $35 dollars plus shipping. Great service from Wolff......;f
It you want to keep the captured type system that you have now then Glockmeister has a G30 factory replacement spring weight and guide rod system but with a stainless steel rod for around $46 dollars plus shipping.... ;f

one of the first things i did to my 30 was get a wolf rod. would prefer shiny stainless though.:( kept the stock spring as it's a defensive pistol. non captured i can clean, alot sturdier than the stock plastic.
good luck.
