Hey all, I don't know if or where this has been answered before but why has Glock never produced a subgun?? Was a statement or reason ever given? I have always been curious and finally remembered to ask it here. Thanks.

I probably should have elaborated a little more.... Why not subgun along the lines of what H&K is producing or a combo such as Berettas CX4.

No market. It's already impossible to get an 18 as it is. Why would they make another gun nobody can buy?

Gun MFG's dont make money on police and Govt' sales, their real cash cow is the general law abiding public.

I disagree. Gov/LE sales do make money for them.
Think of the HLS contract SIG and HK got.
How many guns were those? 30.000 each or so?
You have to understand that its directly between the manufacturer to the gov, with no distributor inbetween.
They load up their own truck and drive them right to where ever the gov takes them over.
One time paper work and so on.

But you are right about the "no market" on pistole caliber carbine.
By now every LE changes to .223 and want to get rid of any hand gun caliber carbine.
Even the Maine State Police are giving out Bushmaster .223 rifels and collect these POS 9mm Ruger Camp Rifle!
If you look at the Beretta CX4 sales, I bet Beretta is hardly making money on those.
While the CX4 is a great gun, but anyone in LE wants if at all in 9mm/.40 the MP5 and nothing else.
Also, beside the weak 9mm/.40 (compair to .223) the low magazine capacity is one other problem nobody wants!
So why would Glock open this can of ....??

The submachine gun market is dwindling. One can quote the DHS contract, but few of those guns, if any, are submachine guns. They are all pistols.

The L.E. and military markets have dumped the subguns en masse and gone to the 5.56 carbine. All recent tactical doctrine teaches that the subgun is passe. Give it another ten years and it may change, but Glock won't build it and you won't be able to get one, S.O.T. notwithstanding.

What I'm saying is, there are only so many LE agencies interested in Machineguns, Mine is one of the ones that is NOT, and never will be.

The PUBLIC, however has lots of money to spend, and spends it often. These folks CANT buy them, so it cuts off the biggest buyer of firearms.
