Replace? It is a used LEO 23 2nd Gen. No finger groves...
Should I go shoot it first then decide? I know I have to clean it first. It's pretty dirty. It has Trijcons too!

Get a solid metal recoil guide rod ;b

Yeah i was thinking of that! Also the slide has a lot of wear on it. The black coating is gone down to the metal. It it also pretty rough to the touch. Is there anything I can do to keep it from rusting or getting worse? I have little oil on a patch and wiped the whole slide but it is still not a clean as I would like it. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

BTW: I got a good deal on it so I went with it instead of the 27.

If it were mine I would change all the springs and those little plastic parts inside the slide.

It should be good to go as is. That said, it would be cheap to detail inspect & clean it, and replace the springs.

On the finish, I'd contact Glock and ask them, their customer service is great.

Glocks are basically as sturdy as rocks. The only concern I know of is the Gen 2 frame might not be up to a 357 Sig barrel swap.

Congrats on your new Glock.

I'd put in a new stock recoil spring and change the trigger spring. That's it.

It looks and feel good when I dry fire. I trust Glock and their product so I am going to put 100rds through it tommorow and then give a call to Glock Inc. to see what they suggest. I'm going to wait on ordering stuff for it and see what Glock has to say. Thanks for the info guys. I can't wait to launch some rounds down the range!

What should I expect from Glock Inc.? Will they repair/replace items even though its used and not under warrenty? I know each situation is different. What experiences have you had when sending in your glock for service?

Well, it's a used gun, and not under any kind of warranty. I don't know why you'd call Glock about it. Spend $15 and buy a couple springs. Do you call Ford corporate offices when your 15 year old F-150 needs an oil change?

I'm a little worried since I have never taken a firearm apart before. Are there any special tools I need to take apart the internals?

Just a small punch, or a coat hanger. If you haven't pulled a gun apart before, consider doing it for the first time with a friend's assistance. It's not terribly difficult, but there are some little tricks.

Glock's legendary customer service is one of the many reasons they have such a large cult-like following..

Took it to the range todsy. Shot good but not great. I will need more practice. I have two thing I need to mention. It fits great in my hand just like my 22 but when I fire it my pinky keeps sliping off the grip. I may just get an AGRIP. The next thing is kind of weird. Its not the gun its me! I shot 30rds (3mags) and then took a 2-3min break and started to reload mags. After that i went to fire. My left hand was shaking like crazy; I put the gun down right away. Note:I'm left handed. I switched to my right hand and shot fine with very little or no shaking. I always use a two hand grip. I feel I shoot well LH or RH. What happened?

BTW The glock worked flawless. And the trigger spring looks brand new.

Keep practicing!!! You can tell the age of a spring by looking at it?

Thats why I said "looks" brand new. Should I change it anyway?
I'm going to take it completely apart tommorow. It's about time I learn more about these guns I love!

IL,

I had one break on me. I change them every year now. $2 You may not want to do this, but at least put a fresh one in the gun now that it's yours. Same goes for the recoil spring.

trigger spring and 5lbs connector and AGRIP have been ordered via TopGlock. Have not had time to strip it yet.

If you really want it checked out, there are GSSF shoots in Indianapolis, Indiana June 29-30, 2002, and Hallsville, Missouri September 21-22, 2002, depending on where in IL you are.

On-site they have official Glock armorers who do free checkups and will change out springs, make the safety changes that have been issued (if they're not already on the gun) and do other maintenance on it. It's one of the services for GSSF participants.

The other thing you can do is send it back to Glock for a 'safety checkout' and Glock will make sure it passes the safety checks they have.

As for rusting, if you can make a Glock rust, you'll be among the first. Look at some of the real life stories, they found one G23 that had been under a dumpster for a couple years and it had surface rust on it. Another Glock had been in salt water for a few years and it did not rust.

Even if the top coating (the black rough stuff) is off, the metal still is treated and it's tougher than any nail I've ever seen. If you polish the place on the barrel that the slide contacts, you cannot even blue the thing, I've tried.

I have bought, and would again buy, a used Glock in a heartbeat.
