I picked this M1 up a while ago from a local shop for $500. A friend wants me to sell it to him and I don't really want to, but he has gotten me thinking about it's value. I took as many pictures as possible of all the numbers and the condition of the parts.

Basically I want to know if I got a decent deal on the rifle and how many things are original and how many have been replaced. I put about 40 rounds through it and was having trouble keeping it on paper at 100 yds, so the barrel might be finished. Also I was having issues going through a full clip without it trying to eject.

From my limited experience. Your rifle is just an import mixmaster. That was probably a fair price for it, but you can probably get more for it now, selling it as parts. You probably won't get much for the barrel though, since it is import marked.

Right behind the op rod in this pic, what does it say on the barrel? You can see the markings by just opening the bolt.

also take a bullet and put it into the barrel while the gun is standing up...take a pic of it. that way you can tell how bad the muzzel erosion is. :wavey: hell for $500 you can't beat that. i have seen 2 M1's at a gunshow for over 1K and is in WAYYYY worst condition!!

The bullet seats completely to the case, so I think that I have plenty of muzzle erosion.

When I get home tonight I will check on the markings on the barrel.

Its got some interesting parts. National match slide. WRA hammer, some Springfield stuff. Late 1943 rifle so during war production which is cool. I think even with shot out barrel it would be worth $500. The wood, what I can see, looks nice. Thats worth something. I would see about a rebarrel or sell it to your friend for $500 as is.

Is it M2 spec ammo? Any old 30-06 bullet won't necessarily tell you anything. If the bullet doesn't have the same ogive as an M2 bullet, it isn't worth trying the bullet test.
