Bead blasting a Glock slide...tennifer question

I want to bead blast my G32 side to give it a different look. Since tennifer is actually imbedded into the metal, will glass bead blasting remove the protective tennifer? Just wondering.

I just bead blasted mine today..

I did this before I parkerized it..

Here I am Parkerizing it..

I rubbed off the crystals and reparkarized it..

It looked a lot better after the second dip..

Then I Moly coated it and boy does this look like crap..:(

I was hoping it would darken after cooking it at 300 degrees..

If this crap doesn't come off, then I'm re-bead blasting it, then re-parkerizing it.. then leaving it parkerized..

I couldn't get the chanel liner out, so I moly coated it and baked it in my wifes oven. The chanel liner started to melt (I think) but then again, it could have gotten crudded up from the parkerizing acids..

The top chanel liner is the one that was parkerized and baked in the oven..

The middle chanel liner was the top chanel liners replacement. The only problem was I couldn't get the damn thing all the was down, and so when I attempted to remove it, it broke and I had to remove it in chunks.

The bottom chanel liner is the replacement..

Right now the slide is getting soaked in Acetone in one of my wifes nice casserole dishes on top of our dining room table.

I did white crayon in the stampings - looks nice. That's enough for now. Learn from others I always say ...

Quail Fat, I thought (from another "tread") that the Moly-Coat was going to only be a "base color" for a "camo job"?

If so, that doesn't look like a bad color to start out with at all!

My Dark Green parkerizing was to be the base coat for the Moly-Coat.

Hey when I was cooking the gun, it really made my House smell bad. My wife calls from work. We have a dog named Mollie. I told her the house stinks like Moly-coat and she asks me if our dog Mollie rolled around in some dead animals or something. I told her Mollies coat is fine, but Moly-coat stinks.. this of coarse confused her because she didn't know anything about Moly-coat until she walked through the door and axed me what the smell was..

It depends on the media. Nylon beads should be just fine..

Aluminum Oxide might take off the tennifer, but I'm not sure.

The picture of the bead blasted slide is from the Nylon beads, but today after work, I'm going to have the Moly-cote blasted off with Aluminum Oxide because I like a rough non-reflective surface to parkerize. ;b

Yo Quail Fat!

Have a bucket of cold water nearby when doing the park.
Once it has stopped fizzing...pull it out of the park and dump it in the water BEFORE it starts to dry. Then brush it real good in the water...you want to get rid of all the park solution. Then spray it off with WD-40 or some other decent water displacing oil (that's what WD stands for ya know). I usually then clean it again with brake clean or acetone and then blow dry with compressed air and coat in CLP.

I just got the gun back from the sandblaster place and reparked it, only I kinda screwed it up somehow and now the gun has a weird patina finish. It's not bad, but it turned out a really dark brown instead of a really dark green..

Here my slide after getting blasted with Aluminum Oxide which made it a nice flat texture. Yesterday it was blasted with polyethylene beads and turned out somewhat smooth in texture.

Here's the color in really bright light, the oil is making the gun a lot glossier than it really is. In natural light, the gun looks black with a touch-o-brown..

I have 80 grit glass beads in the garage. I'll probably blast it tomorrow for the hell of it. Nothing better to do.... Most likely I will have it hard chromed if I don't like the texture or color.
I'll give you an update and picture.

How do you parkerize a slide? Is there a kit for that?

Brownell's sell the Parkerizing stuff. I bought a gallon of it and if I'm bored then I'll parkerize something..

Here is my Glock 32 in an Alessi Ankle holster. I took this picture at 3:14PM central standard time on May 30, 2002

Notice the finish? It's a nice flat black, but if you use the Brownell's you'll have to muck around with it in order to get it to produce a black finish. If you don't, then it will come out grey in color, which isn't necessarily a bad thing..

One of these days, I might do it in grey, but for now, the black is fine..
