I just got word from one of my buddies- we're leaving for Daytona on Feb28th!
Man am I pumped! I've never been to "Bike Week"@ Daytona, and don't know how much time I'll actually spend there. I DO want to ride on the beach;but, after that I'll mostly take day long rides into Central Fla...
Might be plans for a 2 day run waaay on down into the Keys...
Mostly I'm looking F-ward to getting into some SUNSHINE since it's about 5 degrees here right now..
Anybody else going????

I'll be there!!! I'm also leaving on the 28th(from New England) arriving on the 29th. I've been to Sturgis (3x's) and Laconia(about 20x's), but never Daytona. I'm looking forward to leaving the snow and cold

Last time I was there was 1995. I spent two days running around Daytona and the rest ridding around Fl. Great place to get warm. Had LOTS of fun and rode lots. I will be unable to attend this year because, life is happening. Have a great time and ride safe!

It's a wild and crazy joint. The last time I went there was in 1992. Bring lots of money and party like crazy.

i live about 1-1/2 hours out.. personally i dont care much for it. I like riding around better.. we have been riding central FL now for 3 or so years.. not much like up north, mostly straight flat roads.. Keys are great fun and partying but there is only a 2 way road in and out mostly over water. If there is a fender bender be prepared to be there all day..
weather is usually pretty good here. keep in touch and maybe we can hook up for a drink or something.

I live about 2.5 hours south of Daytona. A buddy of mine and I are planning on going for a day or two.

I want to go race, but I don't think it will be this year, but next year is a real possibility.

I'll need to hang out with one of you locals all week. In planning my trip, The only 2 states that I can't carry in are New York and Florida.

For some reason Florida doesn't honor my home state, and my out of states don't work there because they're not my "home state". If there was more time I'd apply for FLA, but I doubt that I'd get a 4 week turn around

I've been to Bike Week a # of times. my last time down was 2000.
There are cool things to do down there besides main street.
I recommend
-take a side trip to the Cape. They have a great tour of the facility.
-St. Augustine is a great trip. Its north of Daytona.
-The Cabbage Patch is something you should see once.
-If you like baseball (I do) there are several teams that play in the near vicinity -spring training- of Daytona. Good excuse to take a day trip.
-The bike auction held every year was always a good time. It was held in Deland Fl. about 50 miles from Daytona. Get to see bikes you may have only seen in magazines.
-I am not much of a drinker, and get weary in crowds. If you are like that, stay away from main street once you have seen it.
-if you love crowds, looking at strange people and getting drunk-well then main street is the place for you.

One of the guys I met on a bike forum that lives near me and I are going to ride up to Daytona on Sunday so I get the lay of the land. I've never been.

I just hope the traffic isn't too bad since the Rolex race is going on.

St Augustine is AWSOME... this is a must see... there is also a "loop" around daytona somewhere but i have not found it yet... I think one of the American Chopper deals was shot on it... the tribute to David Mann.. i need to fond that.

I went years ago camped in New Smyrna, party at The Pub 44.

Between the Cabbage Patch and Pub 44 no reason to go into Daytona.

Having lived, raced, and rode all over the Daytona area for 20 years.....the only "loop" I know of refers to the loop north of Ormond Beach. If you take Hwy 40 into Ormond Beach (Granada Ave.) Just before you cross the bridge (over the ICW) hang a left. That is Beach Street. It goes up to Tomoka Park. Just go north about 10 miles or so and take a right at first paved road you come to. IIRC it's called "Walter Boardman". Cross a small bridge and then next right again. Follow the road along the water until you cross the ICW again. Take the next right. It is called "John Anderson". Follow that down about 10 miles and you will arrive at the Granada bridge again on the "Beach" side of the ICW. It is a really nice loop with heavy tree canopy overhead in places.

Kengps- thanks for the heads up on the loop- I'll definitely try it out.
I rode my bike up to be loaded on the trailer 2 days ago- it was like 26 degrees and sleeting..yeeech...this morning it's 17...
We're leaving around noon today...I'm having a hard time NOT packing sweatshirts and heavy coats because it's so darned ccccold here...
I got a tip on a place on/near New Smyrna beach called JB's fishcamp,,, I'm fasting till I get there!Supposed to be the best fish shack around..
See ya'll later!

FYIGlobal warming, you know? Anybody see the headline about the planet cooling in 2007? Probably not, doesn't jive with the socialist/environmentalist agenda. NASA and all the rest quietly revealed that the planet cooled by .65 to .75 C in 2007. Totally wiping out the last 100 years of Global Warming in one year.
Maybe riding a Bike in Florida will get better. I just can't ride without a full set of leathers anymore. Quit riding on the street because of it, too hot. Of course now I live in Alaska. No problem with high heat here.

I'm gonna be watching the Daytona 200, or at least following it closely and see how BMW is going to fare in the AMA Formula Extreme.

Bring earplugs....you won't need them at the track, but will everywhere else.
