I don't know about you guys, but other than the fact that I am still alive, 2008 hasn't gone too well so far. However, I am choosing to focus on the bright spots, regardless of how few and far between. I shall start us with my bit of happy news from early this morning.
I have completed and filed (online, for no cost) both my Federal and Indiana income taxes for 2007. I'm getting (tiny) refunds from both, and since I am doing direct deposit and vitually no one does their taxes this early, I should have my money shortly. So, no sweating and worrying in late March and early April!
I avoided paying any money for tax software by learning that if you make less than $54K per year (in my case, much, MUCH less), you can file online for no direct, additional cost to you via one of the many companies accessible from the www.irs.gov web site. I assume the hitch is that they then want to charge you for filing your state returns. THIS ONE TIME, I seem to have not fallen prey to such a gimmick. Instead, I elected to not have them process my state taxes, but instead went to www.in.gov and filed my Indiana income taxes (again at no direct, additional cost).
Sure, it's no huge thing, but it's one less thing to worry about until next year. When I get my refund, I'll be able to treat myself to a meal at a fine fast food dining establishment, perhaps twice (if I use the dollar value menu). That beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I filed mine the same day i got my w2 - i'm actually waiting on one more w2.
But yeah i learned about the free filing last year, its great. There are many sites also that allow u to file free.
2008 will get better, don't worry.

So far.. I'm doing better than I did at the end of last year..
I got a flu shot in Oct.. and had the full blown 104.5 degree Fever and Flu over Christmas..
My Dr call me Thursday Jan 17th to confirm that the tests were back from the blood draw and throat culture that were taken on Dec 22nd... and I truly did have the flu...
I could have saved about $850 by not getting the flu shot, not going to the Dr and not getting any tests.. Whats the deal with the almost 4 week turn around on blood tests and throat cultures anyway..??.. that's borders on malpractice.. I'm glad insurance covered some of it..
On the plus side..
I did our taxes and e-filed Friday.. we will have something to put in our IRAs.
The step son, who is living in my old house, coughed up $300 in rent money on Wednesday.. that helps.. he's only $900 behind in rent now...
I've got bullets cast and ammo loaded for the next Steel, USPSA, IDPA and 3-gun match that comes along...
Rural King had another bag sale last week.. and ammo was included... I paid $54 for a bag full of 22 and 12ga ammo...
Harbor Freight has a $4 sale on those little 9 led flashlights that Joe loves so much.. :whistling: ... so I bought 2 more... I'll probably just lose them .. like I did the other half dozen or so that I bought last year..
<---Not from Indianna, but I'll join in on 2008 sucking....I just found out the Army has decided my injuries are too severe to continue on active duty, so I'm out a job, place to live, and medical insurance when my boards are finished....So on top of all the upcoming doctors appointments, I get to try and find a job...
On a plus note, it's raining outside....I like the rain...Too bad the Pats won yesterday...

Don't you still have to mail a copy of the W-2's to the respective Department of Revenue?

The only bright spot I have had this year, is that I won some Larue gear from an ARFCOM thread contest.

I think they just require you to send in a signature card....
