All:

I brought my new G23 (first Glock/pistol) home tonight and field stripped it to lube it (as the manual states) before shooting it for the first time. I read the manual carefully and am pretty confident that I disasembled....and re-assembled it correctly. I did this 3 times to make sure.

My question is, is there anything that could "sneak up on you?" Once assembled, it looks and operates (w/o shooting) like normal. Could one be pretty sure at that point that it was assembled properly??? Or to ask another way, if I did not assemble it properly, would it be obivious and also not work properly?

I am going to the range tomorrow and will have them look it over real quick before firing. I just thougt I would post my question and get an answer before I head down to the range.

(It's late and I am not thinking too clearly at this point, so hopefully this isn't too confusing!)

thanks!

All of the parts fit in only one way. So...Did you have any parts left over?

OK, the preceding post was in fun. Seriously, field stripping is simple and involves removing the slide, barrel and recoil spring. That's it. If you didn't go any further, there is nothing to worry about. If it weren't together correctly. It would not operate at all.

You could always pop off a couple of rounds out of the front door, to make sure.

If just field stripping place them back in the way they came out and Walla. Immediately perform a functions check, rack the slide, ensure the sear engages, shake the gun you shouldn't hear any thing rattle, press the trigger. If you heard the distinct sound of the striker then you should be good to go. Go to the range and practice, practice, practice. Good luck.

If you got it together and it appears to function correctly, you most likely got it right.

Just insure that you get the recoil spring guide rod all the way into it's round notch in the barrel before putting the slide on the frame, it goes on easier and you won't brake the flat end of the rod off.

Thanks all. That's exactly what I needed to hear. I know it's a simple process that all of you can do in your sleep. It was easy for me too....almost too easy. That's kind of why I posted this question! I just needed a little reassurance before I pulled the trigger for the first time!

Happy shooting.

The ".....almost too easy" is why we love them.

Yes in my case. I accidently pulled the slide up and over the two rear rails during reassembly once. It was a careless mistake because I was doing it so fast. ;v
