my form 4 was approved a couple months ago, and took just under 2 months from the check being cashed.

The Form 4's I recieved back this week for customers were signed on 01 NOV 07, meaning it took 2 1/2 months for them to be processed.

Given the holiday season, the fact that BATFE NFA Branch has been training new examiners, and the recent onslaught of transfers, I'm not the least bit surprised at the slowing down of the process.

Don't ever expect any returns on NFA paperwork before 60 days guys. It doesnt matter if the averages are 1 or 4 months. It's gonna take how long it takes. Might as well forget about it in the meantime.

A co-worker of mine got his back at 29-31 days. He forgot the exact timeframe, but I was with him when he picked up his can and when he went to the PO to send the paper packet off so I know he's not stretching the truth.

Guess he got it in mid August or there about.

My last form 4 went through in 32 days from the date the ATF signed for the paperwork till my dealer got it back. It was a SBR and Suppressor in mid November.

Sucks.

I've been "Pending" for over a month now on my Form 1. My biggest concern is that they'll find something wrong with my forms and I'll have to start over.

Yep its going to vary. The last corporate transfer I did, was well over 2 years ago when NFA was still at the old address. Even at that time, the transfer only took 35 days. The last SBS I did took the typical 60 days.

The Form1 I file for an SBR soon will be quite interesting to say the least, on how long things take these days for me.

Sent mine mid Oct. It was signed 14 Dec, and just got it today. It might be slow, but now that I have it, it's all better.

I mailed everything in on 5 October 2007. Check was cashed only days later. I'm still pending approval. It's been...3 months and 19 days now, lol. What can one do?

Just give them a call (304-616-4500). Be tactful, and ask if everything is o.k., and if they have any idea what the time-frame will be. I had mine 1 1/2 weeks after I called. Just make sure that you have all your info, including the serial number of what you a getting.

Okay! Here's the deal: I called the number trailblazr provided me (bless you!), and the gentleman was very helpful and told me that the form was apporved on November 9, 2007! I then called my dealer and they magically found it today...but couldn't yesterday, or all the other times I called in or dropped by the store. Ahhhhhhh! So anyways, in light of being totally frustrated, I can say I'm at least somewhat content. Thank you again trailblazr!

and for the clueless on the forums... what is a form 4 exactly?

The form you have to fill out if you are purchasing suppressor or machinegun or SBR. For do-it-yourselfers, a Form 1 would be needed for a garage hack 'n chop SBR.

He said it was his DEALER who "Magically" found it, not the ATF.

And BTW, it's spelled "Vanna" no "h".

It's not the ATF's fault. It's the fault of the class 3 dealer. I spoke to the new manager there and he tried to explain to me that prior management was "ate up", for lack of better terminology.. So yes, my approved Form 4 sat at the store for two and a half months and despite my calls inquiring about it, they said they didn't have it. Could I sue? Probably. Will I? Probably not. I'm just glad I have my suppressor now.

BTW, I bought an AAC M4-1000 and it's awesome. I had a little problem with the old phantom flash hider it came with. The edges that lock with the spring on the suppressor were really sharp and cut up my spring. I called AAC about this today and Freddy, the man I spoke to, was incredibly helpful. AAC is upgrading my flash hider for free! Kudos to AAC! They even ground ship back at no charge.

As for the class 3 dealer I worked with, Impact Guns, I'm afraid I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth now. Their own fault.

Andrew,

Something like that happened to me, but only for a few weeks. I bought a G19 from a guy here and after a while I thought he'd ripped me off. Came to find out after a few phone calls the FFL put my signed copy UNDER the box the gun was in, then forgot about it.

Awsome, 9 weeks is not bad. I am about to send my form 4 off this week. I am going the trust route. Did you do a CLEO sign off or trust? I have a feeling things will take a little longer now that taxes are starting to be returned. I know thats why I am ordering now.

This was done as an individual. I'm sending off stuff for a .45 can tomorrow and going the trust route.

Seems like business as usual. They took the typical 2 weeks to cash my check for a Form-1 this month. I'm guessing another 60 days before I get it back.

It took my dealer 3 months to get the ATF to transfer a suppressor to him! They are really behind. But they answer the phone and are really nice about customer service.

Yeah i never understood the time it takes for mfg to dealer transfers.

I'll call them in a few months if I havent gotten the forms. I've never called before 60 days.

I got my first form 4 in the mail 5/6 this was a trust for a silencer. I have heard from several sources the ATF told them it is taking 60 days from the time the check is cashed.

The best thing to do is try not to think about it, dont count the days, put it at the back of your mind and it will be here when it gets here.

Also get everything you need while the forms are going through that way you are not waiting for a barrel after you have you can.

I have heard threading barrels can take a ridiculous amount of time.

I bought a Lone wolf threaded barrel for my G19 while they had them in stock. Now I am getting reloading components stocked up for subsonic 9mm

Your timeline was the same as mine and just a week after. Not too bad.

FWIW, I went the trust route, too, this time.
