OK guys (girls too, sorry!)
There's a good old gent here at work that is semi retired and still hunts; Doc has a 30-30 Winchester with the ejection port that is not really on the top or side...more of an angle. Doc wants to mount a scope on it; nothing too expensive. I'm trying to lead him to a 4x...something that can be used on a 30-30, 36 to 40 bell. Also trying to keep him away from see thru mounts due to the stock configuration on a lever action rifle...ie...too much height.
I know enough to be dangerous; can mount it, machining, etc but I don't do a whole lot with scopes.

So, please, your input is appreciated. Am I giving good advice? No see thrus, 4x and no variable, 36 to 40 bell? Thanks;4 ;K

If it is the angle eject model you will not have any trouble mounting a scope,it will be drilled and tapped on top of the reciever, depending on your terrain where you hunt I would catuion agaisnt any thing over 6 power, with a bell in the 32 to 40 area would work okay.If you hunting in a realy wooded area look to a Shot gun type scope 1x or 2x this way you can shoot with both eyes open and snap shoot the 30-30 like it was meant to be shot,IMHO

In addition to the above info, I would recommend the Leupold 2X Compact scope. Small, good quality, not expensive and mount it with see thru rings. I have this set up on my Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 and it is great. It does not sit too high, gives you the open sights for bad weather or really close shots (right under the stand) etc.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. I believe we're corresponding with Midway today and doing the deed.
