Looking at replacing the stock sights on a G19. I use this gun as a carry piece, for 3 gun competitions and as a range blaster.

I'm thinking about going for the Big Dot sight for the benefits of low light of defensive shooting, but I don't want to give up long range accuracy for some of the 20-30 yard shots I make in 3 gun shoots.

Any input?

Here is a video that James and I did that answers just this question.

I hope it helps.

I installed the XS Big Dot sights on my glock 26 and took it to the range today. Previously I had Meprolight green night sights on it. I shot about 130 rounds and either that's just not enough, or there's something weird about my eyes or the way I shoot. The most annoying thing is the rear sight... the base of the "i" is a tiny little illuminated "tube" in the iron back sight. It's rather hard to pick up in light or dark situations... and at the range, I had a real problem figurig out how much distance I needed between the base of the "i" and the Big Dot. I was thinking that maybe the short sight-radius of the 26 made this a more noticable issue. There is also a bit of "beveling" around the tube in the rear sight that would reflect light and cause the top of the "base of the i" to seem twice as wide at the top. At distances beyond 30 feet... especially at 50 and 60 feet... I was totally lost.

I can see how the Big Dot is easier to see and pick-up for close ranges... but for me, hitting a target in close ranges comes naturally regardless of sights... and I want to be able to trust my sights out to longer distances. I've seen the video of the guy on YouTube hitting plates at like 100yds with a Big Dot... but... for me, without LOTS of practice, it's not going to happen.

I'm going to switch back to Meprolights... since that's what I have on other guns... I'm just not comfortable with having to learn and get proficient with two totally different sight pictures.

Again, the Big Dot front sight is nice... the shallow "v" of the rear sight is nice and smooth... but the hash-mark in the rear sight is pretty pointless to me, and figuring out the height for an accurate sight picture for differance distances was much trickier than I expected. Maybe 130 rds just wasn't enough, but I've decided XS Big Dot sights just aren't for me.

I looked at the video link that was posted and remember seeing that a few weeks ago as well. I searched for the sight on eBay and the only one that came up was for the "night" version.

I'm looking into getting a G38 in the near future and would love to get this sight for it. Do I need to get a G38 with adjustable sights or fixed sights or doesn't it matter? Also, it says that this sight is available for the following models only: 20, 21, 29, 30, AND 37.

Do they make an XS Sight compatible with a G38... or is the seller misinformed? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for the info... added the site to "Favorites". They've got a lot of cool stuff!

I actually did exactly what you are thinking about. I put the XS big dot sights on my G19 and found that while the sight acquisition was great, it really seemed to lack the long distance (20 yard) accuracy that I wanted. I know that you can drop steel plates at 50+ yards using these sights, but I couldn't. I switched out to a set of Tru Glow TFO's and I'm really happy with them; the front sight is bright enough to see easily and I feel pretty comfortable with them for shots at distance.

Shots I take in competition are often poppers at 20-30 yards and 6" steel plate circles at 10-15 yards. I'm confident now the XS sights will do that just fine.

My 19's main role is a carry gun, so sights for that purpose come first.

I have them on my carry gun, I admit at first the sight picture takes a little effort to get perfect at the range but once you figure out the spacing you'll love them... people tend to forget the function of these sight... as he states in the video - these arent for competition or pinpoint accuracy at 50 yards or whatever - they're for ease of target acquisition when SHTF...

I believe I would double check with XS Sights as they don't list one for the G38. It is possible they just haven't added it to their list and the GL-0001S-5 may indeed fit it. Wouldn't hurt to check though. :)

I have them on my -36 and -30, and intend to get a set for the -23 and -27.

Why? because the reason for those guns to be in my domicile is exactly what MFriedhoff stated; when the SHTF.

I got some.

They're overrated in my opinion.

They royally sucked when target shooting, and they're not "that great" for fast acqusition.

Having said that.............anyone interested, I'll sell them for $60 shipped.

email me at ktmexperiment@gmail.com

They're on my G23 right now.
