Well, I know it's NOT a S&W. Many companies copies the S&W double action, breaktop design...H&R is the most prevalent, but there are others. As a general rule, they usually don't have the overall fit, finish, and quality of the Smith & Wessons. While H&R and a few others copied the .32 and .38 caliber Smiths, Belgium, Spain, and a few other countries copies the big double action .44 caliber Smiths....

I don't recognize that logo on the side of that revolver, so I know that it is a Smith copy, but it SHOULD have the name of the manufacturer on the top strap. If it is a .38, then .38 S&W would be the caliber, NOT .38 Spl.....

With a little more info, I have the books to look up a bit more on this at home...

I can't quite tell if the 'target' logo at the top of the grips has 'bullet holes' in it -

if so, this was pretty standard for H&R.

It is in good shape. It was my father-in-law's we think. It's not worth much other than sentimental value.

Nice gun though. What year(s) do you think it was made?
