I am in the process of trading a friend out of a used Eotech. I remember reading somewhere that there is a specific revision that one "should" have.
Which revision is this?
What are the differences between that revision and the previous ones?
How do I find out which revision I (will) have?
Can they be updated?

Revision "F", I believe is the one you want. The F's seem to have a pretty good track record.

Rev F is the "good one".

That's kind of the way I remember reading it also, but how do I know what revision I have?

Look on the rear left side (under the "for law enforcement and military use" text) of the EOTechs protective frame, it should have a letter in the corner.
Mine is a Rev F and has a capital F in the above mentioned corner.
What is wrong the the previous Revs? In other words, what did EOTech have to fix? Was it serious?
I ask because I'm thinking of getting one for the AR that I'm building.

Biggest problem with the older revs I heard of was the units shutting off automatically when they weren't supposed too.
Rev F's have no problems that I am aware of or have experienced with my unit.

I just found out that mine is a rev. "F", so I am a happy camper!
It has an aftermarket (I think) mounting screw. It is slotted and about 3/4" in dia. How tight do I make it? (I used to be known as the "Mad Torquer") I don't want to break it, but also don't want it to shoot loose.

That knob comes standard with the sight. The instructions tell you to tighten the know by hand as far as you can, then using a nickel or screwdriver, tighten it another 3/4s of a turn.
