I'm assuming the answer is no :steamed:, just curious why not....

Entertainment facility? Seating capacity too high? I don't remember any seats at the last auto show I went to.. ;)
I know they check you with metal detectors for concerts.

Likey the issue is either it's an entertainment facility with 'admittance' capability of more than 2500 people, or it's gonna be a case of their insurance company not allowing it for liability. You can either disarm and enjoy the show, or choose not to patronize the show and let management know why.

The last time I heard, there was no legal ruling one way or the other... It's been considered a public facility by most, and although the seating capacity is easily over the 2500 if you actually put seats in there, there *might* be that many seats there (if you multiply the number of vehicle by the average number of seats... are there 500 vehicles there?)

The last consensus I heard on another gun enthusiast's board was that Cobo Hall itself was probably OK, but CoBo Arena (where some of the events and displays take place) was likely off-limits even though it's not an entertainment facility at that point... It's really a gray area that hasn't been clarified to my knowledge. Personally, I don't want to be the test-case.

That being said, I know there was a shooting there a few years back... IIRC, the shooter was never found. Just another reason I'll never go to it again. Thanks but no thanks.

I carried open!

They had metal detectors by the entrances, so you'd probably be identified.

Did the have full-on metal detectors this year, or were they just wanding people at random... It's been a few years since I went, but they only had wands and weren't wanding everyone...

So did I...but it was an accessory to the whole "look" of my outfit ;)

They had signs posted at the entrances this year. One of the rules was no weapons of any kind. They had security wanding at the entrances, much the same as in years past.

I can tell you (as a cop) that most cops think the venue is off-limits for concealed carry due to the entertainment facility clause (2500 seats). However, if someone was properly licensed and managed to get in, then their gun was seen, I doubt anyone would arrest based on that alone. They'd just give 'em an earful and tell them to leave. Now, if you end up shooting someone, the courts would have to work it out and figure out if it is truly a violation of the law (more than likely in a civil trial). In any case, it would be in violation of the rules, so for the purposes of a civil trial, the fact that you had a gun in there would likely weigh against you in determining responsibility. I mean...bad guys need safe zones to work in, too!

Hmmmm...I just took a look at your profile and noticed you're a physician's assistant. How'd you pull that one off??

Maybe he was generating work for the physician? :P

I'm still curious... were there full-on metal detectors at all the entrances, or were they just wanding at random like they did in previous years?

Wonder if the boat show would be any different?

They had wands but when I went in they weren't using them.
