Just got a phone call, there is a fire on campus at ISU in one of the dorms. Details are sketchy, haven't seen a wire report.
I have a younger brother at ISU, allegedly studying construction management  thankfully he made it out in one piece.
Please say a prayer for all those involved.

Ditto, my brother is down the road at ISU. He's down in Lincoln Quad, so he should be okay. I hope everyone that was affected comes out okay.
I'm watching the news right now and not getting much out of it except that the parking lots down by Blumberg look like an E-One/Federal Signal demo (FD rep said they rolled 6 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 medic units).
FD rep said 1 room is a total loss, sprinklers went off in 2 more rooms. They can't comment on what caused the fire but rumors were a candle set a mattress on fire. When my mom called, she said that the ladder trucks didn't have the reach to get up to the 11th floor, only the 8th.

Candle on a mattress? It's been a while since I've BTDT, but I thought dorms banned candles for fire safety reasons?

Yowza
I could only imagine how chaotic that could've been. Glad your brother is got out in one piece.

I'll called his cell phone, "I don't have time to talk." It was sobering.

I lived in that dorm my freshman year. We had fire alarms almost every week for a while, I was amazed that THFD responded every time. I hope it's gotten better because after the 2nd or 3rd, about half of us wouldn't even go outside, it could have been bad if there'd been a real fire. I'm glad everyone got out without a problem this time.

You mean people may not pay attention to bans??? Guns are banned in Washinton DC but the murder rate is one of the highest. I thought the government told us bans work...

Prayers enroute...
Dorm style buildings can be real hazardous. Recall the haze of smoke in the
OSU dorms back when it was OK to smoke. :whistling:

Update:
Two floors, the 11th and another one are a complete loss. One other floor suffered smoke and water damage. It is expected to be cleaned and reconditioned during the next few days and the students will be able to get back in. My brother was relocated this afternoon to a new room.
My brother got out with his laptop, coat, wallet and car keys. Everything else is a total loss. He's headed home to South Bend tonight, going shopping for a new cloths and housewares, not sure when he'll get back to classes. We're all happy he's alive and well.
I hope the state goes after the person who started the fire, criminally and civilily. There's no excuse for this type of negligence, he's damn lucky he didn't kill anyone, otherwise he'd be looking at a murder charge.

Wow . . . I just saw pictures of the inside of the building on WTWO. :wow:
Just by the looks of it, they were very lucky everyone got out. The pictures made it look like it burned hot and fast (I'm no fire scientist, just going by what I witness every homecoming when we light off an 80 foot stack of railroad ties and pallets).
