Star and wire reports
January 28, 2008

An Indiana State Trooper was killed when his patrol car ran off the road and struck a tree.
Trooper Daniel Barrett, 25, of Logansport was traveling northbound on U.S. 31 near the Fulton-Marshall county line at 10:42 p.m. Sunday when his car traveled off the side of the road and struck a tree with the driver's side door.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of massive trauma.
Barrett had been a state trooper since July.
State police plan a news conference today at the Peru post to discuss the crash.

Barrett was a 2002 graduate of Logansport High School. He attended criminal justice courses at Indiana University and Ivy Tech. Barrett was assigned to patrol primarily in Fulton County, about 90 miles north of Indianapolis.

Barrett was a member of the 67th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which graduated July 6, 2007. He is the 43rd Indiana State Police Officer to die in the line of duty.
