Does anybody have any updates on all the senate and house bills (firearms related) that have been proposed for this legislative session?

SB356 passed out of the state Senate and moved to the house today. It's Nugent's bill about carrying on state land.

I also find it hard to keep informed ...

The 2nd Amendment Patriots (www.2ndamendmentpatriots.org)disseminate info pretty well. I also get updates from NRA-ILA. They requested calls to Senators today so I called mine and emailed a bunch of others requesting support. I will do the same for this bill when it comes to the House.

Something many of you might consider is keeping email and phone contacts for your legislators in your email address book. Then you can easily pop off a message of support. I use Outlook and have all of my government contacts in one category. When I need to send a note I usually write one email, copy and send it to everyone. I will also print off a letter and fax it. Then mail the letter. That way they get 3 contacts for one letter. I also contact the legislators around me to let them no that as a resident of the local area I support certain bills.

I know that my state representative (John Ulmer) and state senator (Marvin Riegsecker) have both emailed me back stating that they will DEFINITELY support SB 0065 and SB 0356.

Hrmph. The only thing I ever get from my legislators is either an irrelevant form letter or (more often) nothing at all.

I've had really good luck.

Dick Lugar once emailed me back personally as well regarding the FN Five seveN debacle a few years back. It wasn't a letter from one of his aides. I was surprised!

That's amazing, the only Congress critter I've heard back from is Chris Chocola, Joe Donnelly hasn't ever been humble enough to grace me with a response.

Oh well, I didn't vote for Donnelly, in 2006 and I won't vote for him in 2008.

If SB 0065 or 0356 get passed and signed into law, we should have a big party. We'll not only reap the benefits (as will those who oppose it, even though they are ignorant of the fact), but it will also be a case of our legislature doing the right thing.

I'm not surprised, but I'm not deterred either. I'll be emailing again.

I email, fax, and snail mail copies to each legislator and follow up with a phone call. Yesterday I got a notice from the NRA-ILA requesting contact with Lugar to support an Amicus brief from U.S. Senators to the SCOTUS. Letters and emails went to Washington, Indy, and the local office in N. IN. Bayh got copies too.

Tuesday was the last day for Senate action on bills and yesterday was the last day for the House.

Slim chance on getting the language added to another bill. Maybe next year...

Could you start a new thread with the details. We all need to do this, it is make or break time for gun ownership in the US.

Is HB 1260 (the ammo id stamping bill) still alive and well?

That's one that needs to die, die, die. Aside from the preposterous suggestion that it's even possible to do it, the bill stipulates that you have to dispose of any ammo you have that is for a handgun or "assault weapon" by 2011 if it hasn't been stamped or whatever they think they can do to ammo.

Clearly it's an attempt to make it difficult to impossible for private citizens to possess ammunition, which is not a very subtle disguise for more gun control.

Let's gut that bill and out in SB 356 and 65. Before someone says something, I know it can't happen (original author must support the rewording).

I sent Senator Nugent an email thanking him for his time and effort with these matters and he got back to me today saying that he is more determined than ever to make our 2A rights a priority.
