Hey guys,
I thought I would ask other snub fans about this. Well, with tax season coming up and the way it looks I will be getting a decent return, sooo I'm already thinking about maybe buying myself a late Christmas present, of course the fiancee said NO WAY, but I think I may have talked to her into letting me use part of the money.

Anyway, I have been wanting a airweight for pocket carry, but just as I think I know what my next purchase is I see a m40 in the case at a local shop. I had seen pictures of the m40 over the last couple of months and have been curious. Until the other day, I had never seen one in person or held one. But I had to feel it in the hand, the employee handed it over the counter and I fell in love:hearts:

It felt like I had never dreamed it would. If anyone has a m40, what do u think about it? If you don't, I would still like to have your opinions. Thanks.

Here's my 40-1....

I like it, the finish is beautiful and the trigger sucks. Those are the best and worse features of it. The grips are ok, not "real" wood like the older Smiths but good lookin' none the less. If you want to change the grips its a no go. The cutout on the frame where the cutout on the backside of the grips fits into is smaller than other J frames so only grips made for the 40-1 will fit them (not sure about the original 40s). I like function over looks and was considering carving the backside of a set of Uncle Mikes boot grips to fit it, but chickened out. Got a Tyler T for it and it makes deactivation of the grip safety alot easier.
Shooting is very good. Its accurate and recoil is nill with the all steel weight.

I have a 40 without the Tyler T grip, and I guess it would help some. But I just find that the useless lemon-squeezer grip safety adds a totally unnecessary whack to the web of the hand. With full factory loads, after a day's shooting, I thought I had permanent parallel grooves tattooed into my palm! :crying:

I think S&W has learned a lot about ergonomics since then, and virtually every J-frame I've fired since has been more pleasing to shoot (and that includes my 10-oz. 337PD!).

On the other hand -- an old lemon-squeezer would certainly make a nice, classic addition to your repertoire... :)

Same here, I really noticed it the first time I shot it, but not so much later on.

Would the Pachmayr Compac Professionals work on a M-40? On that smaller grip, the revolver backstrap is left open and uncovered by the rubber material. If so, that might solve the ergonomics and grip safety problems without having to use the T-Grip.
