I paid my CC off so I thought I'd buy one before they were gone forever. It looks brand new, but it says .30 cal...does that mean 30.06? I was also told not to shoot newly manufactered ammunition in it. I am posting a couple pictures as well.
congrats, i got mine and love it!!!
i like your bench and ammo stock pilage.:wavey:

Your Garand is indeed chambered for .30-06 ammo. A lot of commercial hunting ammo does not perform within the pressure range that a Garand can withstand, so try to avoid shooting such. The military "ball" surplus (US-made, or the Greek HXP) and the few commercial mimics (American Eagle, PMC, etc.) can be safely used in a Garand.
ENJOY! :50cal:

Is this a CMP rifle? If so, get some of the Greek ammo they have for sale. I've already gone through my first spam can with my H&R, and I'm about to order another. It shoots beautifully. You got a good one.

I buy my 30.06 ammo through the CMP to feed my Garands. Found out the hard way that some commercial ammo (180gr +) will damage the operating rod.

I just ordered ammunition, Greek surplus, but it wasn't through CMP. I haven't gotten the membership requirements in order yet so I paid an extra $30 or so for the ammunition. I did send my GCA membership payment in so hopefully my card will be returned shortly and I can buy CMP stuff.
i just shot mine yesterday. i love it!!! it shoots like a dream.

Ordered a Springfield GI 45 to go along with it....my wife is going to kill me. :)
I was shooting the Greek ammo out of my M1 over the weekend. Shoots great! Mine is a Springfield in the 5.4 million class.

the modern 30-06 ammo that is out there is not too hot for the gun's barrel, bolt, and chamber. the problem is that it is too hot for the gas system that was designed for M2 30-06. shoot up the surplus while you can, then there are several other companies that make M2 equivalent loaded 30-06.
