What is the opinion on the CZ 40B? Did Colt get invloved with CZ to design this or was that another model? What is a fair price for a NIB 40B? I don't hear that much on this model, is it a decent gun over all?

i love mine. expect to pay around 250.00 300.00 depends on the condition. you can carry it cocked&locked ala 1911. it is a truely underrated piece.

I agree.

I think the CZ40 was a project of Colt and CZ. The rumor I heard was Colt wanted CZ to change their time tested action too much so the deal didn't go too far.

At a gun show I was looking for a pistol to shoot a bunch of 40 S&W I came by. I didn't really care what brand but didn't want to spend over $400.
I saw this NIB CZ40P. It was just what I was looking for and I figured just how bad can a CZ be. It was $320.

Fine gun. Totally reliable out of the box.
Two things I don't like is the magazines sticking down, I've since bought a couple flush mags. Second, the trigger is bad, but I understand it gets better with use.

For me the gun points well. At the time I bought it I was experimenting with eyes closed shooting, so I tried the CZ40. It did very well.:)

CZ40P. 10 yards. Eyes closed.

I also think the 40b is the one that has an external grip shape like a 1911.
$300 LNIB I'd think about it. Magazines are unique and may become difficult to find in the future.

The 40P is basically a P-01 in .40

Oh OK, right.
Come to think of it I believe I've seen pictures of that 1911 grip CZ.
I don't know why I thought this 40P is that gun.

The 40P will take CZ75 mags.

I got my cz40 not too long ago and it is great. Feels good to my hand, shoots very good. I picked it over all others on sale there. It is my first(only) pistol so I was really looking and handling several different makes and styles. The cz40 had it all. I have not once wished I had picked any other pistol. I would recomend them to anyone thinking of getting one.

Excellent!

Thanks to the OP and posters. I sat down to start a similar thread as I am considering buying one of these CZ-40s next week. To me this is a sign that I am meant to buy this pistol. Woo hoo.

I had one, too.
It's a nice pistol. Mine was totally reliable and easy to shoot.

A buddy of mine had one for a while and that thing was a great shooter. Best of all the price is right.

Great gun!

I've had mine for several years now and have put thousands of rounds through it with out a single problem. A real pleasure to shoot with very good accuracy.

They were a joint project between Colt and CZ. CZ designed and built them and Colt sold them as the Z40, hence the Colt 1911 style grip and Colt Defender sights. The Colt Z40 was a DAO targeted at the American LEO market, but with polymer framed, striker fired pistols sweeping this market, the sales of the alloy framed Z40 were sluggish at best. The already financially strapped Colt pulled out of the deal. To recoup their losses CZ offered the pistol as a DA/SA version now called the CZ40B. The pistol was built until the inventories of parts were gone and then the pistol was dropped from CZ's line-up. They did have quite a few leftover 40B slides and these were mated to P-01 frames to produce the CZ40P.

Although they do use the CZ75 action there are some very significant differences. The slide and barrel use the Sig style solid lock-up, which is also used by Glock and Ruger, rather the the 1911 style lugs the 75s use, so barrels and slides do not interchange. The frame and sights are also different so grips and sights for the 75 won't work either.

The mags are the same as the 75 .40 mags, though the baseplate is different. This is purely cosmetic and has no effect on function.

They are a really nice high quality pistol at a give-away price, but do be aware that this is an oddball no longer in production and has very few parts that will interchange with any other pistol.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if CZ made it in a 9mm. I have a CZ-75B but the looks of the CZ-40 is awesome. I just dont like the .40 round.

They're actually a nice shooter for a .40. I'm not a big fan of .40's twisty-torquey recoil and I was suprised at how "normal" the recoil of the .40B felt. Not at all torquey feeling. Plus the CZ's have very good chamber support so no KB concerns here.

If you're a 1911 fan, which I am, you'll love the grip.

If you want to try one of the best shooting .40s out there then this is the one to get. I've had a few .40s including a G27 and have shot quite a few others. This is the only .40 I've actually enjoyed shooting, and the only .40 I've kept.

I keep going back and forth between this and some sort of S&W autoloader. How is the finish on the 40B?

I did not realize that these were out of production.

How is the parts situation? I do not want another orphan (I am a big fan of Star handguns and already get to play "find the part" with those.) If I buy one of these, will it be a safe queen in a few years for lack of some minor part?

The slide and frame have CZ's "poly-coat" finish which is basically some sort of powder-coat type finsh. Very tough and and corrosion resistant, not especially pretty though.

Also it's an aluminum alloy frame so no corrosion worries there.

This a duty pistol with a very tough corrosion resistant finish.

As for parts availability "minor" parts should be no major problem as they're the same as a 75, but "major" parts like slide, barrel, or frame could pose a problem if you had troubles with one of these.
