Hi, Dan here. I manage the Glock Serial Number Research Project over in: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412093
It was just a few months ago, when Glock started on a new Alpha Prefix letter. We had a small debate going on what the next letter would be and "L" was guessed correctly by member GSD17. Well, I just had a "LVN" submitted today and so it won't be long before the next letter is allocated.
Anyone care to offer a suggestion and your reasoning? The first to predict the correct letter (and the first to submit a new Glock listing with it) will be immortalized in the GSNRP database!
For the record the current list is:
AA-ZZ
AAA-AZZ
BAA-BZZ
CAA-CZZ
DAA-DZZ
EAA-EZZ
FAA-FZZ
GAA-GZZ
HAA-HZZ
KAA-KZZ
LAA-LZZ

Uuummm..... M?
Obviously M.
L was just a toss up because of GLOCK's spotty usage of "I", "J" and "L"..

You are such a serial # hog!
:tongueout:
I'm going with "N" just to be different. On the off chance I'm right I get to be immortalized. If I'd said what I really think... no sauce 'cause y'all beat me to it. :fist:

With the logic above, I'll say "P". They wouldn't use "O" because of confusion with "0" (zero). Probably will be "M" or "N", but a longshot. :tongueout:

I'll bet M-Z with no further interruptions except skipping O. I know Glock is Austrian, but the German gunmakers, Sig/H&K/Walther all use either I or J in their date codes but never both. Glock decided to skip both altogether in their serial numbers. I had a feeling Glock would pick either I or J but wasn't surprised when they skipped both.
The manufacturing date codes for the German manufacturers goes like this:
A = 0
B = 1
C = 2
D = 3
E = 4
F = 5
G = 6
H = 7
I or J = 8
K = 9
Thus an H&K USP with date code KF would translate to 1995. I can't remember which manufacturers use I and which use J but it really doesn't matter as they both = 8.
Of course a new Glock with serial number MMM-888 could be read as 888-WWW upside down...so who really knows. We will find out in several weeks.

If we look at the AA-ZZ range as a prototype of the AAA-ZZZ range, the first letters used in the double letter range are:
A B C D E F G H J K L M N P R S T U V W X Y Z
No I, O, Q.
But the Jx range (specifically "JQ") was reserved for cut outs, and PJ for red-trainers. Blue trainers are Tn (n = 1, maybe zero).

My G17T is simply "T" no other letters, only numbers.

Thanks, GSD. I think there is a typo in the GSN DB. Is yours T-zero or T-one?

I heard they are going to four letters just to mess Dan and the serial number thread.

Slowly but surely the end of the L's approach. This posted "today":
LYF - G-27 - March 2008- 3rd Gen. - Blue label, fixed sights
I'm hoping that 'M' will be the next letter - then, if I wait for the 'MSB' prefix to come around...... No telling on which model at it would be, but I'd probably want one. Hey, it's an excuse for another.
Of course, this assumes that I could actually find a way to get a specific prefix.

Contact Glock and ask them how. They may suggest a stocking dealer contact them with the request. By the time the M's are out, it may be too late to request one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIGARMS
SIG SAUER (SIGARMS until October 2007) is the US representative of Swiss/German manufacturing firm Swiss Arms AG, which was split off of Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG) in 2000. SIGARMS was established in 1985 to import and distribute SIG firearms into the United States although it now also has some manufacturing capabilities. As of 2000 it has been a separate entity. The original SIG Arms AG parent company was simultaneously renamed as Swiss Arms AG.

I saw this thread was bumped, so I figured someone had a new "MAA" Glock.

I find it hard to believe that Glock is going through the alphabet at the rate they are. They are producing a lot of guns.

It was a mistake - custom run for the Missouri State Bolice.
Check with Mark at Summitt.

When I started managing this list in July 2005 (almost 3 years ago), Glock had just started in the H's. That means in three years, they added H, K, L and M. A single run is AAA-AZZ that is 676 letters with 000-999 or 1000 numbers each or 676,000 per run. We had 3.5 runs (+/-) or 2,366,000 Glocks in 3 years (or 790,000 +/- Glocks per year).
I hope to pick up the MAC prefix G23 this weekend, I'll be able to share the test fire date then. The serial number is VERY close to the beginning of the MAD block.
I also have an interest in serial numbers - probably a hold over from my days as an Armorer in the Marine Corps. I knew that the M prefix Glocks would be hitting soon - I had hoped, but never really expected, to find one with my initials. I would have bought some lottery tickets if the G23 in question had my birth month and year for the numerals (MAC478 - yes, I'd love to own it). The real kicker is that I picked up a LEO trade-in G22 with the prefix CAM this week (.40 SW vs. .40). Yes, I am strange....:whistling:
As to the large numbers - I think a lot are going to Iraq and Afghanistan. Hell, it took something like 14 years for just the first 2 million.

I think Coogan is probably right about the destination of the guns.
Glock is producing a special design for this market. They are supposed to self destruct in about 5 years.
They start out by the plating flaking off the guide rails.

At this rate it will be a while before I can get a Glock with my initials: WJH.
