Chop Job
Can I shorten the grip frame of an M-20 to about the same size as the M29?
WHY ?
I wish to use M-29 magazines in the shortend frame of the M-20. I have seen / read where people have cut the frame to make it shorter. For instance, one man shortend his M-22 to the same length as that of the M-23. He was then able to use the M-23 magazines in the Modified M-22. The advantages would be the length of the barrel on an M-22 with the ability to conceal it like an M-23.
As it is right now. I carry an M-20 with a clip draw set up. Once in a while I print.... The butt of the gun shows through my untucked T-shirt. If the butt of the gun was shorter... say the size of an M-29 then that would happen less often.
Does any one have any information on this topic ?

Any body ?
I am looking for some one with first hand knowledge.
Sent my G20 to Arizona Response systems and had the "Long Slide Conversion" done. I now use G29 mags with Pearce Grip extensions. Great for concealed carry, butt does not print. So far it has been 100% reliable for approx 500 rounds. It takes a bit more effort to control, but then again I'm using Texas Ammunitions 200gr XTP at 1250 fps.

if i was going to chop off the grip of a $500 gun, i would first send the slide to glock to have a new lower fitted
this can be done somewhat inexpensively ($100 iirc)
i would chop the new lower, keeping the original (matching SN) frame in case you wanted to later sell the gun
however
i think that before i went to all that trouble i would sell the G20 and buy a G29
[edited] I believe that the 100 figure was pre frame rail recall (a couple years ago).... I have no idea what the new price is, or even if you can have slides fitted to new frames anymore

Thanks for the post SavannahGL. I think that pretty much covers it. The only thing I would add is the reliability issue. Out of the 3 G29's I've owned only one was reliable. I currently own 4 G20's and have had zero malfunctions in several thousand rounds.

SavannahGL,
Thanks. but, the pic in the post did not work. I would like to see your "chop job" pics. I have copy 'n pasted your thread for ref. during the cutting.
I do not have a M-29 frame to use as a jig or guide. I also think it would be better to use a 3rd gen frame with out finger groves. I will contact Glock to inquire about a new frame to cut on. That way I can save the stock frame.
I think I will photograph the entire process to make a manual for others to follow.
This is exactly what I am planning to do with a nonfinger gripped second generation frame G20. I did a search on the off chance someone had come before me and done this.
Have you done this yet? If you have photographed the entire process that would be wonderful. Can you post them?
SavannahGL,
Have you been able to get your pics back up anywhere? I'd love to see them, but they don't come up at that address.

Why give Robby the money at RoBar?
I can do it my self.

I guess this is what it looks like without your glasses on and viewed through a foggy window. It was taken with a free digital camera, posted on a free hosting site, and you get what you pay for.

Brownell's has instructions on how to do this on their web site. See:

Do it yourself. All you need is a belt sander with rough to fine belt's. A 29 would help but is'nt neccessary. Do'nt pay anyone $150 to do it. For that you really should just buy a 29. I made my 17 a 19 Long Slide and it's perfect.
