Hello,

Anyone know of a decent indoor and/or outdoor range near Oakland county that allows rapid-fire? I got into reloading a while back and have a ton of 45 ACP ammo to rip through. The cost of range time for "one shot every 3 seconds" would negate any savings I've incurred from loading my own :).

Thanks much!

EDIT: Anyone know anything about the DNR Bald Mountain or Pontiac Lake ranges?

Target Sports which is more or less right next door to me.

The reason indoor ranges do not allow rapid fire is that 99.9% of the people cannot control muzzle flip. Without control of the gun, bullets fly everywhere. Plenty of outdoor places to shoot.

Trust me, I'm in 110% agreement on that one. Target Sports is a prime example of why rapid-fire shouldn't be allowed. I've seen people talk to their friend with their finger still on the trigger, shoot gansta' style, even answer their friggin' cell phone while holding their gun in the other hand.

Back on the original subject though, what outdoor ranges are you referring to? I just moved to this area and don't know where any are. I've seen there's two DNR outdoor ranges around 30 minutes away. I don't have a problem driving there if it's worth it. Any suggestions on a particular one?

I've shot "rapid fire" at Target Sports. Never had an issue. Now, I didn't do it mag after mag after mag, but to demonstrate to another friend that was new to shooting, I did it for a mag or two. Then again, I've managed to have zero problems that others have had at that range...knock on wood. And I continue to go there because, like yourself, it is literally a couple blocks from me.

Matter of fact, I'm heading up there around 1pm today(Sunday) with two friends that are new to shooting and I am sure there will be some "rapid fire" from me again today.

As a side note, if you are looking into outdoor ranges, make sure to look into them well. I know when I made the small trip to Bald Mt. they have a rule of a maximum of 6(I think) rounds per mag. Which is EXACTLY why I will never be going there again...

I'm 99.9% sure you might have just "gotten away with it" because they're pretty specific about it not being allowed. They've got multiple signs posted that say "No Rapid Fire", "Allow 3 Seconds Between Shots", etc and I've heard Ray jump on the mic to yell at people for it before. I've also been at the counter when he told a guy that if he has to warn him one more time, he won't be allowed back in. You might want to check with them before going Rambo on a target ;).

Yeah, we all have heard Ray on that mic, not toward me, but to others...

Anyway, I'm sure I just "got away with it" the few times I have done it, I know of the signs and have heard him talk to others about it. I never said it was allowed, but rather that I have not ever had a problem there. Though, like I said, I have only done it for a mag or two here or there as a demonstration to certain people I brought with me and don't do it when I am there just blowing off some rounds by myself. Besides, no going Rambo...I aim center mass and hit it fairly accurately while doing "rapid fire" :tongueout:

By the way, by you saying that you live next door to the range, I assume your a RO'er...nice to see another member from this area, though I am not from RO, rather RO's smaller, nicer, southern(and western) neighbor.

I don't know why Target sports hasa a rapid fire rule when they rent Class III firearms.... that seems a little silly to me.

All DNR ranges I have been to (Pontiac Lake, Bald Mountain, Ortonville Rec.) have the "No Rapid Fire" rule and only allow 6 rounds per magazine and 2 rounds in shotguns.

Now to the question in the OP.
Top Gun in Taylor (Racho Rd.) has no restrictions on speed of fire, allows rifles on all lanes and has bowling pin shoots on Wednesday nights.

Hope this helps.

You sure about that? Top Gun has a 2 to 3 round burst rule. and if they allow rifles on any lane how come my friend could only shoot his 5.7 in either lane 19 or 20?

only been there once, it was a half hour before closing, there were three other people there. We emptied every mag as fast as we could. It was also about a year ago since the last time I was there.
