Does this work? I own a ruger 10/22 and im about to buy my first ar-15 and i cant afford to buy two silencers for them. can i buy one for the ar that will also work on the 10/22? Will it be just as quiet as a can specifically designed for a .22?

Thanks

From a position of just knowing how a suppressor works and dealing with them a little bit I am pretty certain that if it can suppress a 223 than a 22LR will be just as good or better with it, although it may be a little oversized for your needs on a 10/22. This being said, no I have never actually placed a 223 designed suppressor on a 22LR and experienced the same or better suppression as with one specifically designed for a 22LR.

It’ll suppress fine, but it’s likely to be overly heavy to use on an actual .22 rifle unless you get an ultralight .223 suppressor. I use an AAC M4-2000 on my AR’s, including with the .22 conversion unit; but it’s heavy enough that it would severely affect POI if I put it on one of the .22 rifles.

Do not shoot large amounts of .22 through a .223 can. It'll build up large amounts of lead deposits. And, nevermind the 2LB weight on the end of your gun

What can are you looking at?.

I am not poking at you to try to incite a defensive response, but wouldn't it do the same thing to a .22 suppressor?

r2kba – I was worried about the same thing myself, but checked with AAC and they assured me that while the .22’s would indeed create deposits, the blast of .223’s / 5.56’s would reverse it as long as it wasn’t huge numbers of .22’s and very few .223’s. That’s kind of undefined & subjective, but it’s worked ok so far. I don’t shoot huge amounts of .22’s thru mine, though; a few hundred at a time is about it on any given outing.

Lead build up is absolutely a concern with suppressors though, you’re right about that (& I failed to consider it when reading this thread). I rarely shoot non-plated bullets thru my integrally-suppressed .22 pistol for the very reason you state, because they funk up the innards quick.

Right. It's just bad karma because of how dirty .22 is. Most high quality .223 can's use a bi-lock type connector which gets clogged up. Even the newer designs IMO is going to get caked up and be a big pain in the butt to clean up afterward.

Each to his own though. The .22 can's these days are 300$'ish and less. For less than the average quality pistol cost, you can have a .22 can to shoot .22 through and probably have better suppression.

Yes but the larger can's are too heavy to hang on the end of a ruger 10/22, IMO. It really depends on the can the original poster is going to use who has not told us yet.

It works just fine. I used my .223 can on my 10/22 to squirrel hunt with all day today. Using Remington Subsonic .22lr ammo, it was almost 'whisper quiet'.

Yeah nobody is saying it wont work just fine, but too heavy, bulky and difficult to clean up after. Can you see your target around the .223 can's profile?
