View Full Version : 30 vs 36
I'm considering picking up a new carry weapon. I was thinking about the 36 but I don't hear a lot of people bragging about the 36. The extra weight of the 30 doesn't bother me, but how well does it hide. I consider night sights, stainless rod, and a Jak Slide to be standard equipment.
I'll brag on my 36. I owned (past tense) a G30. Nothing wrong with the gun, but once I got the g36 I didn't see a need to keep the g30. The G36 is so much thinner that it is like night and day when you are going well heeled. I love carrying this gun. The G30 was like having a tumor attached at your hip or SOB ( I can't help but think of the Mike's hard lemonaide commercials) LOL. It was a much better option than a G21 that I HAD to carry it (g30). Once the G36 came along it was a non-issue. I traded my G30 in and got a G21 (again) for my bedside gun.
Took both of them out shooting last w/e. Both are very accurate if you do your part. I function fired the G21 with my M3 and it performed flawlessly. Both the M3 and the G21 that is. The M3 gets sooty from the carbon, but you can clean that fairly easily.
With the G36 I ate up the small guy on a B27 at about 45 feet. Not bad for a CCW IMHO. The G21 was even better since it has the sight radius and larger grip. I shot several reaction drills (two to the body, one to the head) and had no probs with the G36 staying center mass at about 35 feet. I'm quite attached to this gun now. Pure pleasure to shoot. By the way, we can't keep them in the shop at $525.

Personally, I have no problem carrying the 30, the weight doesn't bother me, and I am quickly getting used to the thickness... no one ever said concealed carry would be comfortable.. though with the right holster, the 30 can be very comfortable. Then there's the 4 more rounds capacity issue, which was pretty moot for me... Though it is nice having those 4 more rounds in the gun. I personally think it's more a state of mind thing than anything, hearing too many people say "the G30 is just too thick/too heavy/etc" and after awhile you start believing it. Though I could be wrong...
Well, I'm by no means downing anyone for carrying a G30. These were just my experiences. I do agree that carrying any weapon concealed will not be comfortable. I think that should be the case. IMHO, the responsibility of carrying a firearm should be something you don't forget.

As one who just went through this, "Which model?" thing myself, I can only echo what others have said: Get the one that fits you best.
I had a G36 that I recently traded away. For me it was no contest. The 30 felt clunky and chunky, and the 36 felt a lot better. I have since learned that I just don't like small guns of any type, and am content to carry something bigger, when I feel the need to carry at all.

I like the G30. I am 5'07" 180 and it is very easy to conceal and not too big.
I also like that I can use pre-ban mags or mags from other Glocks with the 30, and you dont have that luxury with the G36.
Also at leats for now anyway, you can find more aftermarket products for the G30 VS the G36.......both are fine weapons though
